Here in Arkansas, we started our first lottery last week. I finally got around to buying my first 2 scratch-off tickets today.

I won.

$1.00.

I exchanged my winnings for 1 WHOLE TICKET.

I won nothing on the new ticket.

I LOST.

It's more fun going to a casino (and losing all your money there).

Fun fact: if you drive 10 miles to buy a powerball ticket, you are 16 times more likely to die enroute in a car crash than win the lottery.

(I saw this in a published book, so take that as you may.)

When Derren Brown was doing his lottery show last month he claimed that a typical man is more likely to die (for any reason) in a given hour than win the lottery. So if you buy a ticket, buy it with less than an hour to go before the draw ;)

(dunno how your powerball works, but our lottery is just 6 balls, numbered 1-48 - there is a bonus ball but he wasn't taking that into account).

Scary stuff :)

(apparently the odds of outright winning are 1 in 14 million-ish)

At least WoW has the potential to occupy you for longer than 30 seconds. Also, it's not really a tax since you pay it to a private company instead of the government. But yeah, I get your point. And no, I don't play it.
