I just researched this (Check out my last thread, 8800GT-4850) and the 4890 is great. Although I won't be able to get one for a while. Probably great for you though. Jlee has a link to a great priced one online

I'm not sure if the coupon code is still active, though.

I'd definitely wait until the end of the week for the 5770 review to come out.

Buying a 4890 when you have a 4850 is downright idiotic

There are some situations where upgrading to a 4890 might make sense. I don't know anything about the rest of his system, but he states his card is dying- he's gonna have to replace it with something.

But that's not really the point, he doesn't have a 4850 because it's dead .

Unless I'm mistaken, there are 5000 series cards in the $200 range. Hence, a 4000 series would be silly.

i'm sorry i was mistaken on my card before. it was/is a 4870. how does that compare to a 4890 vs, a 5770? most of the 5770s i see are cheaper...

Are you sure there isn't a breakout cable?

No, they all have Displayport/HDMI/DVI now.

Solution: get a new TV, Ford.

I think my friend told me a bit back that the GeForce 9200 was going to be a pretty good card despite having "low end" numbers and being cheap.

But I really don't know much about cards, except that I'd buy a 8xxx or newer if I wanted a GOOD card. Probably a 9xxx or newer.

It's all relative. A Geforce 9200 probably serves alot of people well for basic webbrowsing, flash gaming, HD/DVD watching. It's unacceptable for my gaming needs tho.

Unless you just want to replace what you had, I'd shoot for a 58xx card.

A 4870 is on par with a GTX 260, which a generation ahead of the 9xxx, which is a generation ahead of the 8xxx. :P
woot!

For gaming it's also relative, for games pre 2007 it's fine.
Got a 6200 PC I use for emulators that can run HL2 maxed, less HDR.
