Exactly what I was thinking. While not the RTS type game you're thinking of, X3:TC is marketed as a 4x game... plus it's pretty damn awesome. New patch just came out like, today, as well. I'm looking at getting back into it.

I wish I could get into X3 but I have no idea how. Last time I tried I wandered around for a while doing missions, but I was never allowed to by anything and I didn't even know what I was supposed to buy.

omg, that game is AWESOME. I used to put hours into that when I was a kid.
