This seems pretty asinine to me. They hype and hype and hype and overhype and lots of people get hugely excited about it based on the betas or whatever.. and then they start axing all the stuff that would take too much time or effort. Why not just release it as SP3 and not make it into a racket..

I'm just looking forward to the 3D-rendered GUI.

Echk... well i dunno about a "3d"-interface... It still looked 2d to me and I see how it could provide for some snazzy graphical effects but not how that interface would be more convenient.

I'll stick to the good old 2D desktop. I have fiddled with some 3D GUI programs and they were all clunky and they sucked. Plus it is a waste of system resources.

I didn't say that the interface offered full 3D perception, I was referring to the fact the win32 method of rendering windows is being scrapped and replaced with a method that uses Direct3D rendering pipeline. Each window conceptually becomes two polygons (for a rectangle) so that all the redrawing and buffering problens that occur when the computer is overworked are all but eliminated.

The actual interface still appears to be the same 2D one you all know and love, it just gets rendered much faster and a few snazzy effects can be used if you want.

and yet it is TC-enabled, so I'll pass on it no matter how good it looks.

The Massassi JO/JA Single Player contest info (I don't know why I have this still in my sig)

Basically what it does is it renders the desktop with the video card, and the video card's processor is the most efficient processor out there. So in other words, windows will run a lot faster.

Hopefully they don't **** that up too.

None of you have any clue what any of the features being cut even do. The only people who are being snubbed are developers.

According to the article at least there seem to be functionality and so forth that were in the betas which will be cut for the final release due to time and effort to fully implement them or something.

good point. I hope its the TC components, but thats only wishful thinking. knowing microsoft, they would cut everything else out of longhorn before they cut that.

Sweet! Now WINE will have the chance to become fully compatible with windows applications, while Microsoft sits on their duff with the same old software. Meanwhile, Linux gets to jump ahead, with constant development of new features.
