After reformat, I get random 404s that are cured by a quick refresh

This happens mostly with Firefox but a little bit with Chrome also. Haven't tried IE. Happens most often at gmail.com. I'll type it in, and immediately upon pressing enter get the Firefox "Cannot be Displayed" screen. Refreshing loads the page fast and without issue. I'm certain there are no problems with my internet connection. I've only noticed this since I reformatted last week. Windows XP Pro.

It has been happening to me since Firefox 3
"Nulla tenaci invia est via"

Are they really error 404s or are they connection interruptions?
And when the moment is right, I'm gonna fly a kite.

It doesn't actually say 404. Its Firefox's "Cannot be Found" page....i'll screenie it next time it happens.

Check your DNS server settings? Or use different DNS servers?

When it happens with Chrome, it says "DNS Error, Server Not Found." Refresh and it loads instantly. Can you elaborate a bit..?

Go to your TCP/IP settings and try the OpenDNS IPs:
208.67.222.222
208.67.220.220
woot!

So I'm not the only one? Where do I find these settings? Control panel? Fire fox settings?
Nothing to see here, move along.

Control Panel / Network Connections - find your connection (wired or wireless, whatever it is), go to the properties and set the above addresses as DNS.
woot!

All this time I thought it was merely my internet connection. Now I can browse easier. Thanks a lot.
