2009-10-18, 4:13 PM #1
Examples: steak, fish, eggs

Examples of foods that do not fall into this category: hamburgers (buns are a no-go), Fries (potatoes), pizza, pasta, any drinks with sugar, etc.

Guinness. It's a smegging meal in itself.
And when the moment is right, I'm gonna fly a kite.

Bleh, it's not a meal unless it has a starch.

What is my favorite source of protein that isn't a starch?

White meats.
2009-10-18, 5:01 PM #7
No, it's not a meal unless it has meat.

2009-10-18, 5:08 PM #8

Gyro, with or without the Pita. (It's a starch, but not much of it)

Those are ingredients, not meals.

Gyro meat is at least 50% fat.

Thank you! Someone else here grasps the concept of a meal.

Protein, Starch, Veggie, Sauce.
2009-10-18, 6:23 PM #16
What if you are limited to only foods with no starch with which to form a meal

That's fine. But since I'm in culinary school I just cringed with you calling just a protein a meal, thats all

Are you allergic to starches?
2009-10-18, 6:31 PM #18

Rare rib-eye steak sliced into 3/4" thick slices mixed in with a simple greek salad dressed with just olive oil.

I'm having it next week when Izzy's staying at her mum's (school half term break).

Egg and bacon, I guess.

Throw some sausages in there as well.

He's implying that good students (i.e. ones that study a lot) don't have time to make full meals. :P

I would like to suggest that by "good student" he means "typical student" and that they're poor from spending all their money and time on beer, so have to create meals from very little :P

Compared to other stouts and porters, Guinness isn't really that heavy. Old Engine Oil is always a fine choice that's quite thick. Literally, the viscosity is a bit higher.

In which case wouldn't they be more likely to boil up some pasta or potatoes than steak or fish? :P

Well yeah ;)

But sometimes you just have to work with what you've got.

(case in point: the discovery of the omelette sandwich and the sausage-roll sandwich) :D

Martyn is correct. :P
nope.

I was just curious because I had a medical test done today that required me to not each starch for the preceding 24 hours and I was trying to think up of meals for myself that wouldn't suck

But that is all over and I just ate a cake so there.

Steak and green beans or tunafish with a small amount of mayo.

Eggs are excellent as well.

The night before a race I'll eat mahi mahi and portabella mushrooms. Then during the day I'll eat some bananas. Keeps the muscles from cramping.

Happydud's "Meatnola":
1 can of tuna
5 slivers of butter
2 slices of turkey (from the deli. Rip these into shreds)
2 handfuls of granola
1 handful of raisins

Microwave for 37 seconds, mix, microwave for another 41 seconds. Add cinnamon, ginger, and dill.

If you want more protein/fat, you can also add a scrambled egg or two (add it after the microwaving)

As per usual, happydud's meals are better suited for inducing vomiting.
