I've got three now two now one NOW ZERO copies to give out. Pre-purchase as part of a four pack is 33.75 as opposed to 44.99 for a single pre-order purchase, 49.99 for a single purchase once the game goes live. That's 25% off the pre-purchase price, and 33% off the purchase price!

Pre-purchase gets you early access to the demo, and an exclusive in-game baseball bat.

I was going to do this on Something Awful, but I decided that since my loyalties lie here, I should check here first. But act fast, because I'm not going to wait forever, and there are buyers on the SA Forums!

First two people contact me on steam (my profile is here) or mIRC (I'm in the chat) and paypal me the money get the game.

Also, if you're afraid I'm going to pull a Yoshi on you, you can ask CoolMatty to verify that this is for real! He might be too busy playing the demo right now to respond though.

ALL MY COPIES ARE OUT. Leaving this thread open in case any of the rest of you want to arrange another 4 pack.

Two posts to provide said evidence or you're banned.

Oh and parody titles are too much fun, so they're against the rules.

Regarding Left4Dead 2, the offer does interest me, but I think I'm going to wait it out until the price is lowered or they have some sale. So that would be some months away I'm guessing. I waited when the first game was on sale for $24, and I think it was worth only that much honestly.

I do not like derivative rehashes, excessively careless plots, hype-machine franchising, money grabbing, and especially exclusive content. I stopped downloading videogames illegally, not because I had a moral epiphany, but they're usually not even worth pirating, since the amount of decent PC titles that come out are so far and few between it's finally affordable. I spend most of my money on indie games that provide that exact same "newness" that mario gave me the first time I sat down to it as a kid. There's an art to indie games that I rarely notice in anything "Tripple A." Still, only a 10th of those are really worth your time anyway. Gaming has gotten bleak. If I actually thought it'd be fun, I might even be on the boycott side of the fence as far as L4D2 goes.

[I didn't feel bad sidetracking since the whole Buy/Sell was over.]

Instead of supporting the title (that many felt was flawed from launch) as they have with TF2 and other valve games, they re-release a slightly updated engine of the exact same game? I know there are new "features," but they are whimsical novelty like the TF2 hat update. The old game seems like a beta test for this well developed full version of the product.

Really, It's about par for the field as far as gaming itself is concerned (ODST, COD games, NFS games) but for Valve it really is bad.

Hey, they can do whatever they want. A boycott isn't about entitlement like that stupid comic/article would claim. I don't feel they actually owe me anything, I just feel like I got a bad deal, and I'd rather not waste another dime on the franchise. That's a fair way to not spend a dollar, I think. It's a way to protest a thing that I disagree with that isn't irrelivent like writing a letter or pretending they have to to anything I expect. My only power over them is how I spend my money, and I choose not to waste it on L4D2.

I forgot to mention, I'd even be happy if they sold it as an expansion pack or update. I'm not opposed to spending more money, I'm opposed to the idea that I have to buy a whole new game instead. I invested in this one, and would probably end up spending more than 50 dollars in the long run if they'd keep a game fun like they did with the HL2 Episodes. 50 dollars for the exact same engine, daylight, and stuff that wasn't entirely complete in time for L4D is dumb to me.

Yeah I guess things like entirely new characters, storyline, enemies, higher detail models/textures/etc, multitudes of new weapons and even new equipment, smarter AI, more vengeful (read: still moving after losing limbs) zombies, more open gameplay and new interesting missions is novelty changes.

That's totally on par with the occassional new class update and a couple multiplayer maps. Not. Besides, L4D1 also got a free DLC too. A whole another campaign!

They shipped TF2 as a completed game, and then expanded that by adding several levels, several new game types, have altered how the physics and logic of the game works just like that silly excuse for an AI tweak. L4D was what they got done after delaying for years, and then L4D2 is everything they WANTED to do with L4D but couldn't.

Perhaps it isn't fair to say L4D2 isn't worth 50 dollars. What I'm trying to say is that it isn't fair for L4D to have the promise of every other Valve game to cost 50 (40?) dollars for what amounts to 4 hours of repetitive gameplay, then release the better version a year later and charge the same.

Several gametypes which were mostly implemented by the community first anyway, and thus were hardly major programming accomplishments. Most of the levels aren't even Valve's, they're community maps. And I don't think any of the physics or logic has changed besides general balance changes (which also happened on L4D).

Crash Course was awesome if only for the escape vehicle. The finale was different too which was ok in my book. Maybe the L4D2 finales will also similarly have their own little differences (IE in Crash Course you had to restart the generator).

Both maps felt too flat most of the time. It didn't really offer much variance in the terrain to make playing Versus interesting or unpredictable, except for certain parts. Plays more like an endurance test.

Still, I guess I appreciate the gesture. Good thing I have the PC version because I wouldn't want to pay for it personally.

I don't think I'm going to be springing for L4D2. I played the first one for about 3 days and haven't touched it since. It's really just the same damned thing over and over again. I mean, sure, you can compete to see how many zombies you kill and all that, but it just gets old.

To me it's just another case of game developers taking the path that EA has been taking for years with sports games and nearly every franchise they've gotten their hands on. Make it a little shinier, add a few characters/teams/cars/levels make a few "revolutionary" gameplay adjustments, and call it a brand new game when it's essentially the same thing you released a year ago with a few things you couldn't squeeze in because of a release deadline.

New characters? The characters in L4D are kind of arbitrary. It's not an RPG, it's a first person shooter. Does it really matter what I look like?

New levels. You mean I get to mow down endless zombies, hunt for witches, get pwned by smokers, and twitch kill hunters in new locations!?

Better graphics. Ok? That's all well and good... but... Does it make it a different game? Super Mario World had better graphics than Super Mario Brothers 3, but it's still essentially the same idea.

The zombies keep running after you even after you blow their limbs off! So I have to shoot the bad guys more times? Really? That's it?

In the end it seems like a lot of what L4D2 is could be user created. New player models, a little tweaking of difficulty, some new guns, and new maps. It's basically something that the modding community could have probably churned out in a few years if given the chance.

I guess I just don't see the need to spend 50 bucks on that sort of thing. Then again I'm going to spend 50 bucks on Forza 3, and all it has is more cars, more tracks, and shinier graphics.

But ****, at least it has about 300 hours of play value.

You missed some of the best new stuff, a lot of which you can bet would never be made by the community (would need source code changes and such):

- New special infected. Jockeys, Spitters, Chargers, and roaming Witches.
- New weapon skins. The new shotguns and pistol have very satisfying firing sounds. :) The sniper rifle looks awesome. SMG is silent now which is an additional extra.
- Melee weapons. A lot more effective than meleeing with your primary weapon in close quarters, but you lose your pistol(s). Swinging the guitar is just fun.
- Bile bomb. This is a ton of fun too, I hear it's good against tanks. Any zombies hit with this will be attacked by other zombies.
- Defibrilator. You can carry this if you drop your medkit, and can revive a dead teammate. Adds another decision to the game (which will I need more, a medkit or a defib?)
- Adrenaline. Uses pain pills slot. Restores a lot less health, but you move faster and shoot faster for a limited period of time.
- Uncommon infected. There is one in the demo... a zombie with kevlar on (you have to shoot him in the head or back or melee him... torso shots do nothing).
- Realism mode. You need to do headshots to take down zombies, many more witches everywhere, weapons have smaller pickup radii.
- Gamemodes. L4D2 will have a new game mode that works like a mashup of Zombie Master and L4D Versus, where the survivors have to get gas cans to increase their score, and infected must kill the survivors to end the round.
- More levels. 5 campaigns. One continuous story. :)
- Stuff that's not in the demo. There's a bunch of stuff like incendiary ammo and the chainsaw that's not even in the demo, not like L4D's demo where all weapons were in there so it was a bit disappointing to not see anything more.
- GNOME. The Gnome achievement from HL2EP2 returns. :D

There's probably more stuff, but I forget. Might be another "secret" gamemode or something that hasn't been revealed yet.

2009-10-31, 5:43 PM #32
The TF2 updates have also introduced stuff thet modders could never do (hats, new weapons, etc).
2009-10-31, 7:19 PM #33
I played the hell out of L4D, so I'm just not happy they decided to make L4D: Southern Spinoff and call it Left 4 Dead's "sequel."

I'm interested in the new items, guns, and and balance fixes for guns and the infected, and I even like the 20 new area-of-effect crowbars to some degree... but give Bill, Zoey, Louis, and Francis a story and better zombie apocalypse. Just WTF happened to them? Am I going to find out in the "sequel"???

2009-10-31, 7:44 PM #34
Who knows. The demo's trailer at the beginning looks promising, but it could be Valve is trying to take the "zombie B movie" theme further by making a movie trailer that's better than the movie! So I'm not going to expect real time jet bombings in the game. If they happen I will be pleasantly surprised.

Oh, well, ZZT, I didn't know all of that. Sounds kinda cool actually.

Consider me uninformed. I retract my previous statements.

2009-10-31, 8:32 PM #36
Oh yeah... primary weapons seem to have less ammo, probably to force you to rely on pistols/melee more. In L4D for the most part you could easily just use your primary and have plenty of ammo all the time.

I heard someone got their weapon knocked away (like at the end of the trailer). Not sure if this is really true or not but if it is that's a pretty cool little feature too.

Heh, modders have made some wild hats by replacing the hat models.

What do you mean? They could never do it because you think the talent doesn't exist, or because the developers will never give TF2 that level of mod support?
if(GetLocalPlayerThing() != jkGetLocalPlayer()) call implode_universe;
2009-10-31, 11:03 PM #38
Because I don't think the engine could have supported it, think about just how much it takes to change most of the classes, and add features never even thought of at release, and have it automaticly given to 100% of the playerbase.
