I don't know if that's the technical term, but here goes.
When I run X-Wing alliance, the card decided that instead of adding black bars to the side of the screen (The res is not widescreen) it stretches it and makes it hellishly ugly.
Nvidia Drivers had a built in option for this, but I can't find it in Catalyst.
Help please?

Check your monitor's OSD, mine has stretching options, one of which does letterboxing.

That's a bandaid fix, What about Dark Forces, or X-Com, or Roller Coaster Tycoon, Or System Shock, or any other old games.
Alrhough, it's a nice tip don't get me wrong.

fixes like that can be found for a surprisingly large number of older games.

I generally just deal with the stretch unless it really pisses me off.

God, even onboard intel card drivers seem to have this feature, I must be missing something.

It's not the card, it's the drivers, and as far as I know, ATI does not support 1:1 aspect ratio scaling on widescreen monitors.

Little bit more info.

I don't know a whole lot about this, but I believe this will be a function of your monitor, not video card. I think the term is 1:1 pixel mapping.

Well, I actually found the options, but for some reason they are grayed out.
So I'm asking ATi directly what the hell is up, thanks for linking me to that wide screen site again. You can stop patting your back now.

no idea how to fix your problem but when displaying a narrower aspect ratio than the screen's ratio the proper term is "pillarboxing"
