Let's reminisce the decade!

This decade is nearing its end, so I feel like looking back to consider what sort of things actually happened.

We saw the all-time peak of reality TV, the wake of terrorist attacks and the (sometimes loosely) related wars, the deaths of a bunch of our childhood celebrities, one of the most incompetent presidents in the history of the United States, the plunge of the global economy, The Simpsons turning into suck, Massassi continuing to exist in one way or the other, Serbia and Montenegro separating into two countries, and a great many things!
Looks like we're not going down after all, so nevermind.

People spent most of this decade obsessed with the 1980s.

*Vomit*

On the computer front, the rise of Google, Youtube, Facebook, Wikipedia, etc. Weird to think how different the web was 10 years ago.

10 years ago, almost nobody has a digital camera. Now, film cameras are practically extinct. Same thing could be said about CRT and LCD monitors.

Also broadband internet. Even in 2003 most people were on dialup.

Speaking of old CRTs, the school got new flat screens and literally nowhere to put the old CRTS. So if anyone needs one drop by J Percy Page, We have a million.

Damn. I still can't believe it's 2009.

When I'm 90 years old, I'll probably still remember 2000-2010 as the craziest times of my life.

So many "firsts" .... alcohol, drugs, women, job, (and hopefully remains the only) jailtime, etc.

Many good memories, many bad. All good life lessons I'll be thankful for for the rest of my life.

A lot of stuff has gone down in history though.

Some cool stuff has been done in science and technology.

10 years ago, not even a single human genome had been sequenced, and the project to do so was running up costs of billions of dollars. Now, you can get your own done if you want (and while it's still expensive, the price has dropped by several orders of magnitude). In the long run this will probably be remembered as one of the most significant things from this past decade.

Also consider that 10 years ago, most of our images of the Martian surface came from the 70s, and the "face on Mars" was still a thing. Now we've got satellites in orbit that can do sub-meter resolution imaging over huge areas of the planet.

Back on Earth, being able to access satellite imagery on a computer was something only governments and sci-fi movies could do. Now we can instantly call up maps and satellite pictures of pretty much anywhere in the world, from anywhere with an internet connection.

Cellphones went from a tech accessory for businesspeople to a thing that almost everyone has. A decent cellphone today has the same amount of processing power as a high-end computer from 10 years ago. The prevalence of cameras on such devices has flooded the internet with untold petabytes of images. I don't have any data on this but I think it's a pretty safe bet that there have been more pictures taken in the past 10 years than in the 100 years prior.

The vast majority taken at an angle from just above head height and of the person holding the camera, possibly with several friends. All of whom will be pouting (to varying degrees of success).

...I've just had a mental image of teenagers trying that with a polaroid.

The world was much less annoying ten years ago.

My 10 year reunion is next year! ****! Thanks for reminding me that I'm getting old, *******s. :argh:  :(
Code to the left of him, code to the right of him, code in front of him compil'd and thundered. Programm'd at with shot and $SHELL. Boldly he typed and well. Into the jaws of C. Into the mouth of PERL. Debug'd the 0x258.

This has nothing to do with the last decade other then it was made in the last decade. I just needed an excuse to post this badass remix.
