Yes? Those are examples of games where it's appeal is -not- short lived.
Me too, I'm just saying it's appeal got very old for me quite quickly. Even the first play through there was several boring times, because it just keeps sending large waves of enemies, there is little skill needed to finish the game on any difficulty, you just stand back and shoot (most of the time).
I finished it two player, then a few weeks later tried to play it again with some other people, but meh.
Then, quite a few years later, there was an x-box handy with serious sam and a friend and I thought what the hell, game was fun, let's give it another shot. But still, no. I'm all for nostalgia, I'm all for classic gaming, but to me at least, Serious Sam is one of those games you play and enjoy but once.
