On a forum for a local paintball park, some dude posted a thread about a tank for sale and his price was exactly what the damn things cost new. So I posted a short reply, and I quote:

The OP sent a private message to me calling me an ***hole for "potentially losing a sale." Am I the ***hole?

No, you saved someone some money and pointed out a ****ty seller.
Good job.

Damnit, that's not the sort of tank I was hoping for. :(

That guy was clearly the asterixhole in this situation. Pointing out when something is horribly overpriced is the right thing to do. So long as it really IS overpriced and you aren't just stingey ;)

Same thing has happened to me, I agree he's in the wrong.

Thanks for the feedback. I don't think it was "horribly" overpriced, but he was asking 140 for a tank that retails brand new for 145 (free shipping, at least on the one site I checked). I routinely check prices for items I'm interested in -- I thought a 50ci tank would be a cool addition, my 70ci tank is too big anyway. Oh well, probably that guy will hate me forever but I'm cool with it.

When it's only just under the price of a brand new one, I'd consider that pretty damn overpriced.
And that guy seems like the kind that would have a very long 'hate forever' list

As an user of both HPA paintball tanks and scuba tanks ... usually tanks are very overpriced.
It's pretty common.

Most of the price paid is going to be for the regulator. The actually tank, it self, is pretty worthless.

I've gotten 3 scuba tanks for less than what I've paid for a single 68cu paintball system. (Even though Carbon Fiber is more epsnesive than steel or alum ... still...)

He's definitely the glorious hole.

I have done it both ways via PM or public post, based on my best guess of how the seller will react.

Well, he whined to the mods there and they deleted all the replies to his post (including mine). (stupid morons) -- oh well

well to be perfectly honest it is a bit of a thread ****ting when you go into someone's buy/sell thread and say "you can get it cheaper here" or "it's only a little more for a new one"

if the buyer is lazy/dumb enough not to check prices elsewhere they should be parted with their money

I disagree -- it's a paintball park that caters to newbies and it's not in their best interests to allow people to be ripped off on their forums. Clearly they agree with you, though.

It's looking out for other honest people, nothing wrong about it. If he wants to rip people off he should try Ebay.
