Anyone else remember..

..That the box Jedi Knight came in showed Kyle having a lightsaber duel with Darth Vader instead of Jerec?

I swear to god mine did, but I can't find a picture of a box like that.

EDIT:

I found the damn image! I remember I was always confused because Darth Vader isn't in the game..

That means you bought JK like 3 years after the rest of us did.
2009-11-22, 3:24 PM #3
Yup, he's in the secret level that is accessed by running in circles around Max 100 times and then shooting him in the head with the stormtrooper rifle. After that, you kill every single person in Baron's Hed. Once that is done, you will be taken to the level where you fight Darth Vader. It's pretty sweet.

I always wondered how the stormtrooper in the background got shot. I guess you deflected it, or stormtroopers tend to have really bad aim.

But Kyle didn't have a green saber and I don't remember him wearing black in the game.

I don't think Vader is even in JK or MotS as a playable character. If he was then it might be partly forgivable.

Maybe there were plans to have you fight Vader but the devs realized that it was just too much and so nixed the idea, but never had the opportunity to get new box art designed.

2009-11-22, 7:24 PM #11
I'll tell you exactly why Darth Vader is on the box. Because he's a well-known character, and his image will attract people's attention and sell copies of the game.
If you choose not to decide, you still have made a choice.

Luke and Vader were in MotS multiplayer. Boba Fett was in JK multiplayer for some reason that I can't recall.
2009-11-22, 8:56 PM #13
Probably because the devs liked the Fett man. lol

I just checked, Vader is a playable character in MotS

I got the first edition in 1998 and I nearly got that Vader box in 1999 since I thought it had some secret Vader level in it.

Funny how the secret Bespin level in MotS didn't even have a Vader boss (someone made a "fixed" edition which had him, though).

In addition to the mentioned fact that he did have the green saber through almost the entire JK campaign, he also wore black in MotS, and the black outfit was available as a skin in MP for both (Dark Kyle I believe).

Haha anyone else remember when PC games used to come in those huge cardboard boxes? The JK box was what, 14x8"?

and then special editions of the games might come in an even bigger box

a good example would be this photo from the recent purchases thread oversized collector's edition along with the normal "big box"

those were the days... the boxes had plenty of space for big thick manuals and they could throw in all kinds of extra goodies like strategy guides, entire books filled with backstory, little trinkets and also the box art is more impressive when it's on a bigger box kinda like album art on vinyl vs cd

I've been using a keyboard of that same model for several years, same colors and everything!
Looks like we're not going down after all, so nevermind.

Yes, I don't use that wheel or the two buttons below it, though, in fact I'm not sure I've ever even pressed them...

But I just realized something: my keyboard layout is probably different, since I have a Finnish/Swedish keyboard so it has silly keys like ÄÖÅ.

These are courtesy of ATMachine from a couple of years ago (2004).

An alternate box cover for JK that was done. Apparently it appeared in some catalogues briefly:

Thats the one Ive got after I purchased it again after JK disc 2 got all scratched and messed up. I think it was the same price to buy JK with MOTS as it was with just buying JK by it self. £21.99 I paid for that box in HMV if I recall, got the first one at the local gaming store called "Format".

Oh happy days

Oh on the bix box thing, the copy of Rainbow Six Rogue edition was huge, it was a big blue box, with a T-shirt, mouse mat, poster, Music Cd, games, manual and a statergy guide, I got that from EB Games when it was EB before it went to Game. I think I paid about £15, it was in the sale and grabbed it as i wanted the expansion pack. Might just have to play rainbow 6 again for fun after reading the book....
Flying over there some were...
