My dd-wrt wireless bridge decided to quit on me when I got back from AZ...so I had been using my laptop for internet (blah)..then my laptop died this morning! GRR! Fortunately, my wireless card came in today so I'm able to get back online...

So anyway, how many people have had a laptop die lately? My buddy's netbook crapped out today also - we're both getting blue screens when trying to boot windows, reinstall windows, what have you. 0x00000, 0x00000050, 0x0000007, stuff like that.
woot!

I will not discuss the reliability of my macbook because I don't want to jinx it.

I had a MacBook die on me.

May it rest in pieces.

what... what do people do with osx? I don't get it.

If I only ran osx I'd literally be giving up 2 hobbies.

Browse the internet and chat is probably 90% of it.

And since I do web development, that's rather universal so...

Don't get me wrong, I still have my PC desktop for most of my work use and of course gaming (my Macbook can play a few games in Boot Camp, but not many). But the macbook w/OSX runs bloody forever on the battery, comes in and out of suspend perfectly every time and fast, and even supports all my external hardware without drivers or extra software (like the stupid sprint stuff for my USB cellular net card).

I should also mention that when I say "comes out of suspend mode perfectly", I don't just mean without crashing. I mean the applications all seem to be written to be aware of this functionality, and will log out smoothly when suspending, and log back in when resumed.

I ran chkdsk /r, which repaired some errors...still gives me 0x00000050 on Windows installation.

Time to call the warranty line, I guess.

That word, "localized"? I do not think it means what you think it means.

Hook up a USB DVD drive and try booting a Windows install DVD or memtest86+ like NoESC said (IIRC you can use many bootable Linux LiveCDs for this, Ubuntu is what I use).

For 2D drafting (typically steel plans/details/sections) ACAD2008 is perfectly quick enough through VMWare Fusion. No need for rebootage.
