This is great but brings up another question. Has youtube metered their broadband in the last couple of months? Every video I've watched recently has been painstakingly slow to load, even in bad quality. My internet is 30MBs down too so I don't think that's the problem.

I'll third that. I never ever remember having a problem with YouTube until the start of this year I think. And I've had this both at home on university connections and over here in the UK uni connections
