I can't help but be A LITTLE annoyed when I see these 3m0t1c0n5 lulz. I mean here and there is fine...but when emoticons and weird character speak (almost borderline 1337 speak) becomes normal diction it starts to piss me off, like the person lacks certain vocabulary to express what they feel. Other people seem to not mind it...and some even claim without that text messaging, facebook, other communication stuff gets lame and boring.

Anyone else feel the same way about this?

I don't mind use of one when it is appropriate. The only thing that really bothers me is when people use letters for words, or shorten words that arent long to begin with...

"wat r u doin?"
"What are you doing?"

Six letters saved... you can type 60wpm on a phone keyboard if you text enough to use letters for words im sure, and yet, with that 160 character per message limit, you feel the need to save 6 letters for a four word sentence...

"When someone uses 'plz' because it's shorter than 'please', I respond with 'no' because it's shorter than 'yes'."

I can't for the life of me remember where I heard this but I found it quite amusing.

I am probably a very annoying person to text with. I seem to send no less than 3 sentences at a time, all perfectly spelled and punctuated. I can't stand it when people abbreviate words that do not need to be abbreviated.

I think it's harder to abbreviate. The auto word function spells out whatever you need 90% of the time. If you try to abbreviate you gotta actually 'spell' what you're typing.

Oh man, /_\.

I use ¬¬ and ¬¬ a lot. Also :F

Everything else is just kinda annoying, although I generally end up using ¬¬ way too much.

I don't abbreviate - when texting or on twitter I'll only go back and shorten words if I'm over the character limit.

I don't mind some smileys though - I use :P, :D, -_-, O_o, >.>, and <3 quite often. Not really any others.
Fincham: Where are you going?
Me: I have no idea
Fincham: I meant where are you sitting. This wasn't an existential question.

Oh yeah. That reminds me. Sometimes I use O_o o_o o_o; >.< and quite often <3 And very very rarely ^.^ and variants thereof

Oh yeah, and :P all the time.

I use a few different emoticons, sparingly. It's the people that use them like they're a replacement for punctuation that annoys me.

I text and instant message in complete sentences. I'm a stickler for abbreviations that make sense though. IM replacing instant message would be an example. I find myself using laughing abbreviations frequently as well. The dropping of vowels irritates me beyond belief. Damned kids, get off my lawn.
