Best all round office deathmatch (PC) game?

UT2k4 if the computers can handle it.

I like to play slow-motion low gravity jumpmatch on UT.

Also sniper arena.

Well it'll run better than Halo at any rate.

UT 2k4 isn't all that great compared to UT to be honest. It's fun and all, and the graphics are a little better (not significantly), but something about the gameplay just isn't quite there.
If you choose not to decide, you still have made a choice.

The original UT is just a work of perfection. Plain and simple.

I know the feeling, and UT3 multiplied it by a million and ended up..
bland.

MORPHEUS.

What's worse is that's the first one I tried them on.

I think the problem is that I work with Heathens/fools.

Morpheus is BS when playing with bots on godlike skill. If you are above them, they can take any instant-impact gun (shock rifle, minigun, sniper rifle, etc) and kill you from any distance. They will shoot you into the air, and continue hitting you even after you can't see them anymore because you're so far up.
2009-12-18, 7:28 AM #55
Yeah, Godlikes were always best (for me) on Deck-16

Only in DM servers, but my favorite is Gun-game. The best ever.

Also, UT3 is unbelievably ugly...

I beat them there on Godlike instagib once...can't find the screenshot, though. .(

not that the game speed was reduced to as-slow-as-possible..or anything..

I've started playing QuakeLive <_<

Does anyone else?

Would it work on a P4?

I assume you mean the artwork, because technically it's amazing.

UT3's problem is that the environments are so detailed that it's hard to make out enemies.

I love the character and vehicle designs, the building designs, but the bloom destroys every sense of "beauty" this game might have. It's an absolutely ugly bloom/HDR implementation. It truly is disorienting to see such a bloomed and blurry environment.

Not to mention, that the artwork is nearly identical to that of Gears of War. It's like Epic can't make anything else.

The game is awesome fun, and I'm pretty good at it, but it's just so hard to look at most of the time.

The environmental details and textures are pretty good though, but it's all hidden under horrendous shaders.

The only map that doesn't suffer from this too much is Deimos, my favorite map. The others are all pretty bad.

And it's really annoying too, because as proven by Mirror's Edge and the Unreal Lightmass video, UE3 has the potential to be the greatest looking engine out there, but every developer who puts it to use goes with the ugly bloom route and doesn't bother making up their own artistic style, and just ends up copying Epic. (Exception to this is Mirror's Edge and Mass Effect).

UT3 is glowing brown and grey.

Agreed but, you can always turn it off.

Oh, meant to mention, there are ports of older DM games which make them run effortlessly on XP; Fuhquake, eDuke32 and several for Doom (I used to play csDoom and zDoom, but I think the current pick is ZDaemon or Doomsday or maybe something else).

Me Me Me. My name tag is MentatMM. I mostly play CTF but I've been known to invade a CA game or two. I really love how they've basically designed a social networking site around the game with friends, player statistics, etc.
? :)

I'm BRAND NEW to it, so I've just jumped into the games it recommended and not played with the other stuff yet. I'm martynpie, so add me if you get there first :)

(also, skill matched? my arse! I've been spanked every single time!!) :D

They should get a new one :argh:

... or at least, tell the current one to be more original when switching between games. :P

This thread ALMOST convinced me to reinstall the original UT.

Good times, that was.
