Motherboard won' accept ram?
2009-12-19, 9:49 PM #1
I have this older Nforce430 I'm using untill the RMA for the RAM on my main machine comes back.
I have 4 2 gig sticks of DDR2 that I used to use on this (Flawlessly) that it won't accept. More then that it seems to refuse to work in DDR mode, I can have only one stick of either 1 gig or 2 gig, but no more.
What the hell is this?

There should be a stickied thread called "Tibby's computer woes" so you don't have to make a new one every 18 hours -_o

You do seem cursed. You might want to consider posting these issues on a forum dedicated to computer hardware. Here is my brainstorming:

I would look on the motherboard and see if there are any leaking or burst capacitors. An older Nforce board I had burst a capacitor near the memory slots and 2 of the 4 slots stopped working.

Some older motherboards require you to change a setting if you fill all 4 ram slots. Usually all it does is increase the memory voltage slightly. You might want to try booting into bios with 1 stick, increasing the voltage a little, save the settings, power down and install the other 3 sticks.

You ram could have gone bad, but in my experience memory damaged by static usually still posts. Memtest each stick seperately if you have the patience.

I don't think it's bad, each stick works independently it just blares at me if I add any more then one. Thanks though, I'll look after a BIOS update.
Yes, I am cursed. Computers don't like me.
E: Wait, It can't be a slot problem, I had 3 2 gig sticks and 1 one gig stick 2 weeks ago, but as soon as I took them out to add a 4th 2 gig, it all went to hell.
