SOOOOO ANYWAY, now that there's already a thread...in the spirit of the imminent holiday, I hereby proclaim that I will purchase and gift a copy of STALKER via Steam (so long as the price is $1.99) for the next three people who post here with their Steam ID. Obviously you can't have it already, and I'd prefer you get it only if you're actually going to play.

Merry Christmas. :D

It's still active, but I have a warning about selling my WoW account, which I guess means someone stole it...

I bought stalker earlier today and started playing it just now. I don't like it that much so far ... mainly because it looks kinda crappy for some reason =/

Install Oblivion Lost before you play through the game. I have heard good things.

Lurk
Mod

Or Stalker Complete 2009, which even with the terrible name, is pretty great. Although I prefer LURK for the ridiculous weapon selection.
2009-12-23, 1:42 AM #19
Or AMK for the difficulty.

Play through vanilla first, though.
Hey, Blue? I'm loving the things you do. From the very first time, the fight you fight for will always be mine.

OL and Lurk use most of the AMK stuff.
If you still aren't satisfied, before you give up try a mod called "Super Mod Pack" I played the game through using it a few months ago. It's a mod pack made by a single guy that just takes stuff from loads of other mods and puts it together.

I was tempted to bite... but I think I might pass, seeing as it looks like its one of those "omgomgomg this is a good game......... as long as you use content other people have made!"
I can't wait for the day schools get the money they need, and the military has to hold bake sales to afford bombs.
2009-12-23, 3:52 AM #22
I played through it without any mods and I enjoyed it. FWIW.

Damn, am I too late? :P

Either way, my info:

ID: styves

e-mail: luv-bunneh@hotmail.com

If it wasn't for not being able to buy off the net, I'd have bought it. For the price it's just a no-brainer.

Yes, and they made it ****.

More OL than Lurk. But Lurk isn't as crotch-punchingly difficult. And OL is bordering on casual.

Look at the change log.
There is a reason.
2009-12-23, 6:32 PM #32
Sure theres a reason, but I tried to download it last night and it crashed after 500 meg.
Now I don't have the confidence to try again and waste more download. I might try again after my next download reset, but till then I don't want to risk wasting gigs of download for a mod.

Do it through filefront. Moddb defaults to a ****ty generic host first.
2009-12-24, 7:09 AM #34
Are there any issues modding the steam version of STALKER?
2009-12-24, 7:59 AM #35
None, It's an exact copy of the latest version.
Now, Due to a weird complication you can't play multiplayer though. (Steam uses Patch 5, the last offical patch. However patch 6 was leaked, so most retail users use it for MP. Best to use 5 anyway because most mods need it.)

Noted, I'll try that when my download cap resets, cheers
