Just wanted to point this out.

This is also how I first read the title of this thread.

Is getting a DirectX 11 card this early really worth it? I recall someone saying something in a different thread to this effect.

Right now I'm looking at a 300 dollar HD 5850. After spending as much as I have, I'd really rather go with something cheaper if its not going to change things significantly.

They're like five bucks at walmart.

Considering the fact that most memory issues are only apparent during pattern tests or regular use, the fact that all of your RAM "reads" doesn't mean a whole lot, does it?

An ESD that can destroy RAM is a couple of orders of magnitude too tiny for you to feel. You installed it without grounding yourself, right?

Good.

What do people think can happen to a processor anyway? It's not like a light bulb guys, it's not going to burn out unless you pretty much do it on purpose. If a test is giving you some sort of poorly-defined "CPU errors" it's a lot more likely to be almost anything else in your computer.

Or what? You'll push me down a flight of stairs?

Suck it up. You aren't a special little snowflake and you don't deserve to be coddled.

That's awesome! Anything I need to check in order to make sure it'll work?

Jon`C: I tapped my case between moving or switching around any parts, especially the ram. The second half of your post implies that if you're not coddling you're veraciously insulting people. Is it really that hard for you to let it go? Just stop posting here if all you're going to do is start a fight. This thread was not intended to threaten you.

If your computer wasn't plugged in, it wasn't grounded.

Waah the mean internet bully is pointing out the fact that I might have made a mistake! Thanks, but I'd prefer if you were the one to stop posting.

I have no problem with you pointing out that I've made a mistake, I just don't know why you have to be hostile about it. Read the thread over and tell me why you decided to be a douchebag? I didn't catch the graphics card problem, is that what you want me to admit before you'll stop acting like my mother in-law? CoolMatty clearly even thinks I'm a retard and didn't have the extra time in his day to say it.

Yeah. The basic little yellow multimeters they sell everywhere these days. My dad got a slightly better one from Harbor Freight, which includes a back light and a separate on/off switch (rather than being a part of the dial). It was $3.

Ug, that sucks Kirby. If you want I have a few spare PCI-E videocards, I could send you something extremely low-end to test with.

There is nothing that makes DX11 a must have feature right now, but AMD's DX11 cards are pretty competitively priced. I could see still buying a DX10 card if your budget was < $130 (under cheap 5750), or between $160 - $270 (the 5770->5850 gap).

Thanks for the offer, but I think I'm just going to get Pommy's nice deal. I'll even log in to Woot! and give him a thanks. I appreciate the advice, and I apologize for not accepting the graphics card was dead too. I'll put together the old box with a spare hd and see if the CPU was ever even damaged.

I'll let you guys know when I get everything started up and find out my ram is fried thanks to Jon`C. *jab*

This thread made me want a new video card. Picked up a 5870 from Microcenter. Paid more than Newegg, but instant gratification ftw.

I'm late to the thread but on my 'budget' computer I spent 500 dollars on a 3.4 quad core AMD phenom II, 4 gigs of RAM and an AM3 mobo.

I would advise making sure your PSU can run your new processor with your new rig as well if you're upgrading.

I got a pretty awesome "budget" computer not too long ago for free.
