JK in windows 7

Hello all, I have been following these forums for some time and recently decided to join up.

I have done some reading on this subject but I can't seem to find the exactly solution to my problem, I was wondering if you might be able to help.

I am running JK on windows 7 64bit. I used to the installer bypass method found on JK hub as well. My problem is, when I launch the game, I am able to see the Lucas arts miniature cutscene, but as soon as that ends my game crashes out to the desktop with the "exe has stopped responding" error.

As I said, I can't seem to find any specific information on this particular problem off hand. I may not be searching hard enough so my apologies if this has already been resolved.

System specs:
E8600
5 gig DDR2
XFX HD4850 (using the wrapper from JK Hub)
Windows 7 x64

Have you tried launching with -windowgui or tried compatibility mode? I havn't used windows 7 yet so I'm not sure if JK works right out of the box without tweaking, but those tricks get it playable in Vista.

I have not.

From my understanding that is only to clear up the black menu issue so you don't have to tab out and tab in to the game for the menus to display properly. I dont think it would work but I am willing to give it a shot.

Also I'm finding the lack of 16-bit support to be slightly disappointing on Windows 7 =/

You'll probably need -windowgui. JK doesn't like Vista (which includes 7).

You will also probably have to turn off 3D acceleration in order to get in-game without problems as well.

...or download the 3D acceleration fix.

Note that I have had JK work fine with the DLL fix on Windows 7. I can't recall what method I used to launch it, but I know I was playing it fine.

Windowgui will probably do it.

yeah.. or just alt-tab out to the desktop then maximize it again.. that usually fixes it for me (didnt know how to go into window mode)... window mode is better though.. cause its a pain to alt-tab out everytime you need to access the menus lol

You guys are great, I stand corrected. The -windowgui worked like a charm, thanks guys!

I seem to be having a new issue though. I am using the Ubermodmanager and I can't get it to point to the shortcut to launch from instead of the original exe.

I don't think it can, however launch options has a mark for -windowgui. I think.

Absolutely retarded of myself, I just realized that. :nonono:

Thanks for your help Tibby =)
