Seriously, did Alexi even try to make a level with this?? What is the point of changing UV scale on surfaces IF THE EDITOR NEVER ****ING SAVES THEM?? :argh:

You can scale textures just fine. Unless Zeq broke it in ZED.
2009-12-27, 11:53 AM #3
If you scale by an arbitrary value, say, 0.935 in this case, on maybe just the V axis, the texture coordinates are modified but the value is not saved in the JED file. If you reload it, it'll read 1 again.

It's even worse with the lighter, which (I guess) uses JED's cleave function, which can destroy these already fragile settings.

Really? 'Cause I've yet to run into that problem, and I switch between .JED files all the time, retexturing and changing scale...

Just checked the date.
It's 2001 alright.

Just read your post.
It sucked.

JED is spaghetti alright.

Spaghetti western.

So much nostalgia. So much Clint Eastwood.

So hard to work with.

I recall this being the exact reason that I gave up on my level making exploits. For one reason or another (probably a combination of user error and awkward coding or interface or whatever the **** you want to call it) I couldn't come back to a project exactly where I left off!

It really got to me and I recall breaking a small jade figurine of a penguin and a fishtank. Saltwater and dead fish everywhere. So horribly ****ed up, so very ****ed up!

Are you entering the coordinates by hand or using the scaling tools? Sometimes it works by hand and sometimes it doesn't. In my example, 0.935 doesn't but I have surfaces with 1.5 and they work. It might be less than 1 or something.

You mean update the bounding box? You'd have to remake the template. If you mean reload the 3DO, yes, you need to reload the JED file. Easiest is to save and then revert.

The texture thing is not a problem if you use standard scales like 1, 2, 4 etc for everything. I used an odd value to make parts of the texture fit just right with my level. I should have just modified the texture or modified the level.

I'd try to fix it but JED's code is a mess and it's a bit late in the game to bother.

No it's not just the bounding box and reloading the Jed file doesn't work either or you know that's what I would do

If it's what I remember, its like JED won't update the actual template at all. It's like you have to rename the template something else, and use the new name in JED to get the thing to display properly...IIRC

Wait, Emon, I thought you said JED was a good editor before?

I have no idea how you could get a problem like that, TODOA couldn't have survived if not for U 1.23423 V 3.2552

  1. Open the master template (master.tpl or mots.tpl) file in notepad.
  2. Delete you template manually and save.
  3. In JED/ZED, choose the Commands menu option and then select Reload Templates.
  4. Save your project and close.
  5. Reopen your project in JED/ZED.
  6. Add your template again.
  7. Once again, choose the Commands menu option and then select Reload Templates.

I've had this problem in the past as well. Not often, but on occasion it happens and that's what I have to do. The 'reload templates' bit may be redundant, but doesn't hurt anything either.

The easiest way is to close and reopen JED, it's annoying because I like to have my windows opened in a particular order, and that just throws everything out of wack

Yeah, you know, JKEdit probably does many things a lot better than JED. It was updated for a long time after Alexi stopped working on JED. It may not have the all powerful grid, but everything else is almost certainly better.

Damn right, windows 7 reads brainwaves to make your levels.
2009-12-28, 5:00 PM #26
That all powerful grid is why JKEdit will never compare.
2009-12-28, 5:03 PM #27
Sure, but I mean on comparable features JKEdit is probably better. Mostly because it isn't as buggy.

I like the auto door placement feature, but the create elevator feature sucks. I always create elevators manually. The texture coordinates tool is practical and organized, and the file search features are handy, but you are right about the grid capabilities.

I don't know! It's completely a mess. I think Xzero was complaining about this a while ago, too.
