Needing a name for a game.
2004-08-31, 8:07 AM #1
Hi!
Some of you might know this, some might not, but I've had this plan on making a Mega Great game. Now, I need a name for it.
Description of game:
It's a game where you can do anything in it. You can fight, have a party, solve puzzles, fly ships, drive cars, make your own levels easily, and full physics so that if you put gears together and turn one the rest would follow.

I thought of LADE, but it doesn't sound like it would get people interested. Maybe courious. LADE, being an abbreviation of Loads of Adventurous and Dangeruos Entertainment. I'm not sure about this name... What would you suggest. I'll accept abbreviations but please specify what it stands for.

The world's your toybox?

Not terribly catchy, but true!

Hm... If you use sex, I know what will happen... Messy pants!

But true, with those physics it can be like a little tool. Contruct your own gun without CODE, but putting together pieces.

And I must say... Toybox? I guess it can be, but it won't catch... Everything? Nah... If I put that title, there's bound to be a complaint somewhere saying "it doesn't have everything". Of course, then I could say, "Then make it!"

Real Life, no... If it was Real Life, then you'd die!

World in a box... Maybe, but it ain't only the world...

TURFS-G sounds like Turf's Game... But it MOINE!!! And ADE... No L... Hm... No sorry, noone's going to aid you in this game [http://forums.massassi.net/html/tongue.gif]...
FreeStyle... It sounds like a Free Styler.
Mega... Just plain old Mega... Hm... Na... Too common...

"impossible"... That mission already exists.
"we've run out of ideas"... Best one yet! I'll take it! [http://forums.massassi.net/html/tongue.gif] [http://forums.massassi.net/html/tongue.gif] [http://forums.massassi.net/html/tongue.gif]

Personally, I think your game idea is WAAAAYYY too ambitious for us to give it a name. Maybe if you narrow down you idea a bit and establish some sort of theme like sci-fi or something, we could come up with a more unique and specific name.

Well, yeah... I am going for a sci-fi theme when released. And maybe towards the Crystal Harvested Energy era. But after that, you may build any era of your own.

Art of the Galaxy... Hm... Maybe, I don't know...
CORE... Too many level names like that.
COSMOS... Nah, too spacy...
Universes... Too common and I don't think I can fit a whole universe into one level.
OMAGE... Still too common... And I think there might be a game out there with that name...
VOYAGE... Too close to Voyager... And I don't think there'll be a long trip anywhere...

CavEmaN, that name is a bit of a mouth full.

Calling it Edward... Hm... Maybe. Or maybe just... THE BIG E!
OK, I know E! is copyright, by not the letter.

Sounding good alot of them...

That's an understatement for such a massive game. I've toyed with ideas for such a massive, multi-dimensional environement for a game, and even the more toned-down ideas I have (an MMORPG implementing a lot of advanced physics, and giving player freedom that makes Morrowind seem like Galaga), would require massive ammounts of computing power that won't be availible for years... I judged the minimum system requirements would be something like a 10Ghz Pentium, and at least 4GB of main memory. The servers, on the other hand, would be a nightmare. Even the most efficient means I can think of for handling such huge ammounts of data (including at least 1,000 species of plants that act in every way real, and roughly the density of animals in real life), would require power that puts the world's most powerful server farm (Google) to shame. Such technology would not be readily availible until at least 2008-2010, I say, and still probably not affordable.

Of course, from some of what I hear, your plans aren't so much technology-dependent as technique-dependent. That would be impressive if you were to make a set of basic scripting rules that would allow for almost any type of creation. That's a rather big problem to try to wrap your arms arround, though.

Why not make an engine with similar physics? A game where you can do anything in a multiplayer world suddenly sounds utterly boring, as well as a game no one would pay for. Plus, since it's so utterly unlinear, it'd end up being the Sims: Useless.

Well, the game does sound advanced, but can easily be toned down to match a machine from the 20th centry. The top settings would resemble Bryce style and the lowest would resemble the first 3D game ever. And yes... The server stuff in MP is a bit of a problem. I've also thought about it. Specially if the game is VR (optional).

And Kirby, I doubt it would get boring... If you make a level for fighting, you won't be bored... You'd be busy trying to stay alive. Then again, some people might not want action... Maybe just a resting spot. HECK! WHY NOT URU ALL OVER AGAIN!? And I wouldn't recomend that name since it's already taken. One difference between Sims and this game. Unlimited rescources to making a house, for one. OK... A cheat would change that. Building abstract houses! All kinds of quality textures. Weapons! Refractions in some volumaric textures. Creating a completely new object. New monsters. Total Custom Avatars, making yourself look like Groucho or Mario or James P. Sullivan!

Zelda is copyright, I think...

Uh... what you're suggesting isn't really possible unless they were to make their own game. You're advertising something you haven't made yet. "Quality textures" when you have none. "Bryce quality, to the first 3d game quality" when you have NO rendering techniques, models, or ideas for the technical side yet. "VR" when you probably have no clue of the concepts behind tricking the brain into thinking it's somewhere else, let alone know how to make a VR machine when it hasn't even been invented yet.

You seriously need to make a goal for the game, and go with that. There is no such thing as the 'do anything, make anything, do everything' engine, and there probably won't ever be one.

Don't say that there'll never be one, unless you can see the future. And yet, even the future can be altered.
But yes... It has been a bit of a bad habbit to plan a game when I have no programming skills. Bu tI do have a basic concept of what an object is made up of and different texture styles. I don't think I'll have a goal for the game... Maybe it will turn out like Unreal Tournament. No real SP level and a lot of MP. That would mean I really have to focus on the server problem.

OK... Reason for picking a name now is so that I can name my project folder. A project folder where I can stuff plans, pictures, some objects. You know, some place to put all this.
