Reccomend me some PC games

SInce I was discussing older games in another thread it reminded me..

I've noticed quite a few of you are avid PC gamers. Christmas was especially good to me and I've got a hotrod of a computer rig right now. I'm really anxious to try out some of the newer games on it that I've been missing out on due to system limitations.

So what are some games you'd all reccomend?
2009-12-28, 3:29 AM #2
I have been greatly enjoying Mirror's Edge.

Lucidity has been crashing on startup for me so I can't recommend it.

Broken Sword: The Sleeping Dragon is a fun adventure game with annoying quick button events and mindless crate shuffling puzzles.

New Super Mario Bros Wii is awesome.

Haven't played enough of my other games to tell you.

Torchlight is a blast. I haven't had this much addictive-fun in a while.

What kind of game do you like?
woot!

"Shattered Horizon" looks like it would be a fun multi-player experience & it's cheap.
? :)
2009-12-28, 7:03 AM #5
I'm really for anything, preferably something away from FPS (Shattered Horizon looked intense though!), I've got just about every one I can think of that is worth playing (HL series, FEAR, Crysis, Timeshift, COD series, Halo series, UT series, Quake series, etc etc.)

Whats everyones take on prototype or assassins creed 2? Are they terrible ports or worthwhile on the PC? Thanks for the suggestions thus far all!

Have you played both KotOR games? There's a restored content mod for KotOR 2, so I'm replaying it.

If you like KotOR, play Mass Effect, which is in my opinion probably the best RPG ever made (JRPGs can go **** themselves). Dragon Age: Origins is BioWare's newest RPG and is also really great if you want to lose 2 weeks of your life.

For me, that game is fairly enjoyable overall but it's marred by moments of absolute frustration.

Agreed Echoman. There are some parts where I just stop and give up... but that "reaction time" feature really helps.

That's funny. I used the reaction time feature exactly once during my multiple playthroughs, and that was only taking on some enemies on hard mode. There are quite a few frustrating areas, but nothing so frustrating as to be worth giving up on :P
2009-12-28, 1:56 PM #11
reaction time? damnit

These are all awesome ideas, great ways to blow $100 =P

Whats everyones opinion on the TFU port for PC? Worth spending the money on?
2009-12-28, 3:34 PM #13
It has some terrible issues with inflated requirements due to bad programming, but If you have the power to play it and think you'll like it. Go for it.

Fallout 3 bores the hell out of me...
woot!

Fallout 3 is unplayable for me because it stutters whenever I turn too quickly or look at the sky or buildings because of a known issue w/ nVidia drivers above 17x.xx (?) that have been there for freakin forever and still not fixed in 195.82 or whatever the newest revision is. grathgg

Am I the only person who found Fallout 3 to be deathly boring?

Maybe I didn't play long enough to get hooked.

Maybe it just didn't appeal to you. I don't know. Or maybe you should try it again.

Does it get better after you get better guns than the pistol?

If you want action, explosions, and gunplay you have the wrong game.

JLee, the important thing to remember is that Fallout 3 NOT an fps with rpg elements, it's an rpg with FPS elements.
If it's not your type of game, then fair enough. Hell Oblivion was hugely popular and I considered that really boring. I also found Mass Effect to be very tedious, bad gameplay and crappy dialogue, but a lot of massassians sing it's praise.
Speaking of rpg's, get Dragon Age, perfect for hot-rod pc's, if you're into rpg's of course
Also, why hasn't anyone said Borderlands? That game is damn fun!

Mass Effect was the best damn purchase I made last year.

Both Left 4 Deads are pretty good too, if you haven't got them already.
Hey, Blue? I'm loving the things you do. From the very first time, the fight you fight for will always be mine.

See I loved Morrowind, though, and I really like NWN-style games too (NWN, The Witcher)..and Diablo / clones (TORCHLIGHT) are great, too.

I haven't tried DAO yet.

I have Left 4 Dead 2 on 360 - and I agree, it's a riot. I didn't like it at first, but once we got to real guns instead of pistols it became epic.

I just recently bought borderlands myself, its still $33 on steam right now, good deal.

If you want to stretch out of the FPS genre a bit, try some of the older good games.

Mass Effect as mentioned, still a shooter-adventure, but amazing game.
Oblivion was quality in its day, less so now, still fun though.
If you like RTS games, try the Age of Empires III & Expansions games, good times to be had.

Also, I would say the new monkey island games from Tell Tale are great, but you'd really need to play the classics to get all the jokes.

Fallout 3 is good once you get used to it. If you level your character the right way you can just walk around like a tank if you want.

just bought dark messiah, the SP is quite good, but the MP is basically dead almost
2009-12-29, 3:47 PM #32
Ooh yes, I loved the SP of Dark Messiah, I also blame it for why I found Oblivion so boring, if only they ripped Dark Messiah's combat off
