Though it makes things like the scene where Brother Cavil tells Tyrol he's not a Cylon that much neater.

I thought that the Cavils were pretty much like-minded. Wouldn't one knowing mean they all knew?

The lead cavil apparently knew all along who the final five were, as he's the one who betrayed them in the first place. But the other models did not. There's no reason to assume any cavils other than the original knew.

Watch The Plan. The Cavil that's in the fleet from the beginning definitely knew all along, and it's made pretty clear in The Plan

I've been rewatching the whole show on blu-ray (just got the complete set a couple weeks ago). Just as good as the first time through, and definitely more epic in 1080p and with 5.1 DTS-MA (my first time through must of the episodes I watched were crappy online rips).
