So how is Dead Space?
2010-01-08, 7:53 AM #1
I was wondering, just how much of an "horror" game Dead Space is. I'm usually not a fan of creepy games like Resident Evil and FEAR that throw sudden moments of terror at you (sudden visions, turning around to have some creature up in your face, like the girl in FEAR that suddenly bursts out of the darkness running at you in an ape-like manner as you crawl through a vent)

It looks like a good and intense game, but I can't tell just how "scary" it is intended to be. Should I expect more of a FEAR or survival horror type romp in space, or more of a Doom 3 type setting (which I didn't really find scary).

It's a great game. But it does have moments that make you almost **** yourself.

From what I've read, its more of a survival horror. Not much ammo. I've been meaning to get this and play it for a while. Kinda reminds me of John Carpenter's The Thing.

I loved Dead Space.
I can't wait for the day schools get the money they need, and the military has to hold bake sales to afford bombs.

It's next on my backlog.

Yeah, it's a lot like The Thing. Ammo isn't that hard to come by, but you definitely want your shots to count.

Speaking of The Thing, anyone played that The Thing videogame released years ago?
Looks like we're not going down after all, so nevermind.

The story is actually pretty good too. Which is usually the worst part of Horror games to me.

I did. It sucked hard. And it had so much potential.

It's pretty awesome. It's hard to explain. Scary at first, but after awhile it's more awesome and creepy than scary. It has alot of moments where a random "scary" thing pops out, but after awhile it happens so often, and you're shooting off so many limbs that it becomes more of a really good gory survival horror game.

Dodgey camera and it woulbt let me us my own controls. Those two things combined make it hard for me to get into a game, wil try again later when I'm bored abd desperate to play, but I really hate it when games don't let me reassign right click (nos people wouldn't even notice I guess, but my right clik is always move forward)

Probably my favorite game of last year. Simple, but amazing. Didn't try to do anything more than a survival horror. What Resident Evil 4 should have been.

Deadspace is an amazing survival horror game that didn't sell nearly as well as it should have. Pick it up.

I just played through the intro and if you have a controller (like an XBox 360 controller for PC or a Logitech gamepad), the game definitely feels a lot better than if you play w/ keyboard and mouse ... the movement/aiming on keyboard and mouse is @_@

Hmm, I do have a 360 controller but it never occurred to me to play such a game using a controller. I guess I'll give it a shot.

I actually never had a problem with keyboard / mouse controls. I suggest you try both and just stick with whichever feels better. And yes, this is a good game.

Yeah, I've never understood why console ports, no matter how well they're done, just can't get that mouse aiming thing right. They stick all these silly things on like acceleration and really low sensitivity.
DO NOT WANT.

Ugh I've been disappointed with at least three games lately with terrible mousing; Assassin's Creed, Dead Space, and Red Faction: Guerilla. It's like they don't even bother playtesting the port before tossing it out the door.

I've played snippets my dad couldn't (I recommended it for him on PS3 and mum got him it for christmas) and it's pretty fun. Might have to give it a whirl when he finally completes it.
Hey, Blue? I'm loving the things you do. From the very first time, the fight you fight for will always be mine.

Yeah, I want to get a 360 controller so I can play Resident Evil 5 PC. It just feels so weird with a mouse. :/
