After several months of considering buying a new desktop, finally convinced myself to do it, so last night I ordered these parts:

i7 920
ASRock X58 Extreme motherboard
6 GB Corsair DDR3
XFX Radeon HD 5870
Antec 300 case
Antec TruePower 750w PS (wanted to make sure it could easily handle a second 5870 in the future if I decide to add one)
640 GB WD Black HD
Cheapo DVD drive

Last time I built a desktop from the ground up was 2003, so I figured I was finally overdue. Should have everything early next week I hope.

Where'd you order from?

Different places. Processor and video card from ZipZoomFly. Case, PSU, memory, and DVD from Amazon. Motherboard and hard drive from Newegg.

That's what came out cheapest taking into consideration that I have to pay sales tax to Newegg.

Yep, the extra 9.25% makes buying everything from there a bad choice.

Amazon charges me sales tax so I know how you feel. I think within the next few years we'll all be paying sales tax on everything, regardless of where it comes from

Yeah, can't wait till it all gets here. First time I've built anything even close to top of the line (yeah, not really top of the line, but I consider it about the best you can do before the price/performance ratio really starts to get really out of hand).

In Ohio on the tax forms, they ask if you made any purchases online, and how much. I wonder how many people actually report that honestly...

Overclock the processor just a little and you are top-of-the-line.
