I found two interesting posts on joystiq.com today. First off is the sales charts in the US for December: http://www.joystiq.com/2010/01/14/december-npd-nintendo-ends-2009-on-a-high-note/
I was dismayed at the number of wii games that top the charts -- and I bought super mario wii so I helped. I'm disappointed because really, really, really my stepson and I enjoy the games on the 360 the most. And HD games kick ***. And blu ray rules. I was also surprised at how close the sales numbers were for ps3 and xbox for the new call of duty game. I guess I would have expected there to be a lot more xbox sales. Does anyone know the total installed base in the US of xbox vs ps3? Maybe ps3 caught up while I wasn't watching?
Also, it sort of makes dual-console releases a no-brainer -- it's not like there are a lot more on any one console. The case for exclusives is less clear -- companies must get nice bonuses from either sony or ms to make an exclusive game (esp. if it's a good one with a lot of hype which would be over-a-million-seller on each console).
The second link is about stupid reggie from nintendo america spouting his dumb mouth about wii netflix streaming: http://www.joystiq.com/2010/01/14/reggie-wii-users-dont-care-about-hd-netflix-streaming/
Seriously? I would love to have hd streaming on my wii. In fact, the more devices I can stream on, the better. I would *love* an hd version of my wii as well.
Is it really that people don't care about HD, or is it that most people still don't have an HDTV?
Actually, my parents bought an hdtv and still watch normal dvds on it and think it's the best thing ever -- but regular dvds look a lot crappier to me on hdtv than they do on sdtv... Blargh.

For me, this isn't true at all. I bought the wii because I wanted to play the latest Zelda. I had skipped gamecube so it was an obvious choice to get the wii (although I was disappointed in the zelda controls, that is a different story). I didn't *care* about hd then because I didn't have an hd tv. But as soon as I got an hd tv I suddenly cared about it. Does that mean I'm going to stop buying games for the wii? Yes, except for nintendo-developed blockbusters like mario (and perhaps another zelda). Our gaming budget for the past year has been almost exclusively xbox 360. And everyone knows how much I'd love to love a console not made by MS."over 26 million consumers have bought a Wii. The consumer is saying, for them, the quality of the visual is not nearly as important as the overall entertainment."
