I quickly realized that it is doubtful too many people here would be too susceptible to this.

"Corporate drones" have special group policies defining what and when updates are made available to the PCs on the network. Usually IE6 is left alone because so many god-awful old applications/intranet sites require it.

This is exactly our problem. Fortunately we're on track for a Windows7 deployment.

In before the computer-retarded complain about the many beneficial changes in Win7.

Wasn't too long ago that all of our computers (Army) ran XP and IE6. Now we're running fairly well updated Vista platforms. I'm sure we'll see Win 7 sometime after the next Windows is released. Well they will, anyway.

Why wouldn't the Army just build its own Linux client to perform any and all said tasks needed?

I don't know if that would be possible or not, but it seems like a good idea to me.

Yes sir. Effective date of retirement will be end of October but I'll be signed out on leave in the summer so basically end of June and I'm done.

The Army loves Microsoft Office. Literally loves it.

Basically go to college full time with a varying degree of focus on economics, politics, math, and science with an eye on teaching with maybe some real estate on the side. I figure even in tough economic times pretty much any marginally qualified bum can become a teacher.
