Comment from Jim Webb: http://www.politico.com/blogs/bensmith/0110/On_to_Plan_C.html

Quote:
In many ways the campaign in Massachusetts became a referendum not only on health care reform but also on the openness and integrity of our government process. It is vital that we restore the respect of the American people in our system of government and in our leaders. To that end, I believe it would only be fair and prudent that we suspend further votes on health care legislation until Senator-elect Brown is seated.

Ouch.

How long do we figure it will take before Brown becomes one of the hated RINOs? Six months? A year?

Depends upon if and/or when he decides to routinely vote with democrats the majority of the time.

Republican In Name Only. I'm guessing any search engine would have cleared that up quickly.

Oh, please. Let's not pretend that a Republican has to vote with the Democrats more than half the time to get the RINO label.

No problem, I just had to put something obnoxious in there. It's more force of habbit than anything else anymore.

That's true, 5% or so would probably qualify (when the votes purely along party lines) but it takes pretty blatent and repeated offenses for it to really stick.

I have to admit I don't have a good idea of what would constitute "blatent (sic) and repeated offenses," but if Olympia Snowe, Susan Collins, Arlen Specter, Lisa Murkowski, Mel Martinez and John McCain have all made the cut (and that link isn't the first time I've seen "RINO" appended to any of their names), you can probably expect more of the same from Scott Brown. That, or he'll quickly lose his office.

I know. I used to champion a policy of descriptive thread titles but nobody else seemed to care and I doubt most people here really care too much to discuss current events on the boards anyway. At least not significant current events.

Oddly enough while I was watching Brown's victory speech tonight I decided to scan the news networks to confirm my suspicions. I was watchning FNC which was just showing the speech. CNN was on commercial and MSNBC was basically mocking the man while he talked. On the way back up, CNN was analyzing the numbers trying to figure out what went wrong. FNC was still just carrying the speech.

news corporations with obvious political alignments broadcast stories that are heavily biased toward their own party.

this and even more shocking facts tonight on the Wookie06 Factor.

my favorite part was when cnn said that brown isn't even an american citizen, so technically being a senator is actually illegal. plus he's a smoker, so you totally know he'd side with the tobacco lobby. also his middle name is hussein, which - I mean, I don't really understand these things, - but apparently it means he's a muslim, so now the senate has beenladen with al'qaenda trouble.

but we all know he only got elected because he's a man running against a woman. what has he done for men, anyway??

You can't get integrity in journalism from any major US news source and most of you probably know this. US media is corrupt and it smells like crap. We all just watch the channel that confirms the little story we have in our heads.

Why not take this challenge: for one month, we only get our news from the BBC.

So you're saying this is another example of Democrat's not supporting a woman?

Any chance of the Democrats passing anything now that they only have a 19 vote lead in the Senate?

It is pretty silly that a 60 vote majority has suddenly become standard for implementing policy goals. The wholesale gutting of the Senate healthcare bill to gain one or two more votes also seems kind of silly now that 60 is out of reach.

Obviously the beeb is more impartial than most, but it does lean slightly to the left because its staff are typically young and have recently graduated from university.

That was a pretty big win in the big scheme of things.

I think it's ironic that one state that does have some semblance of a public option voted Republican, although I guess after the complete and total failure of their health care system they are up for anything not even resembling it.

BBC is pretty good. BBC Television to me so far has been pretty excellent, with most of the more biased things definitely coming in the articles like you said. British papers are another thing. The littlest thing happens and the whole crusade of writers is up to defend Mr. Obama saying how he's NOT GETTING HIS CHANCE FOR CHANGE
"His Will Was Set, And Only Death Would Break It"

"None knows what the new day shall bring him"
2010-01-20, 7:20 AM #31
That's because most papers are pants besides The Guardian and The Times.

That said I still read the Daily Record. :P
nope.

I like to look at the headlines of the Sun. Then I can rejoice in the fact that 99% of the time I couldn't care less about what they have to say.

The other 1% of the time is when they cover real news, but obviously in such a silly way as to render it unreadable.

Sounds a lot like Fox.

BBC is the most unbiased news source I've read. I'm fairly conservative, but the BBC has never irked me in any of their articles.

“I don’t respect your right to take the 5th Amendment” which protects against self-incrimination, an angry Rep Bill Pascrell (D-N.J.) snapped at the couple.

That's right, guys: Democrat or Republican, the constitution is still nothing more than a minor annoyance to be ignored.
