2 More days people, lets share our stories of ME1 and what we think will happen.
I pre-ordered it, and have been able to play it through.. alternate means... so I'm not going to spoil anything for anyone, and just say that it does indeed live up to all the hype. it's the best damn game I've ever played.

(Warning- ME1 spoilers abound in this thread, your own risk)
(No ME2 spoilers allowed even after release)

Anyone else think Ashley was a gigantic **** and killed her off at Virmire? I was actually persueing the romantic plot with her untill I realized how much of a racist she was, so I went with Liara. Also I killed off the council because I thought at the time if I didn't then civilians might die, they should be willing to die for those they represent goddamnit! EA making the Batarian DLC free is such an awesome thing and I hope they do the same with ME2, but I doubt it because 360 and PC are released at the same time.

Possibly, I just know that it comes with the 1.1 patch. Just put your serial into biowares website thingy, and bam. Batarians.
Very good DLC too.

I cut the Turian off a couple times (I laughed so goddamn hard).

By the Goddess, Shepard.

I'm playing ME1 right now for the second time. I made Shepard look like Abraham Lincoln. Also I recorded him tapping the blue chick who is the prostitute or whatever
2010-01-24, 11:25 PM #9
She's like.. Umm.
A high class escort I guess, She isn't really a "Prostitute" because she does more then just sex.
2010-01-24, 11:35 PM #10
not for me she didnt
2010-01-24, 11:43 PM #11
Well yeah if you just push her into it with a renegade character.

Well so far the games garnering some more than stellar scores, according to Metacritics. I look forward to getting my hands on this baby tomorrow. Got my copy reserved and ready to play.

I have three specific savegames to import.

In one I played a renegade infiltrator that convinced Wrex to stand down, but allowed the geth to blow the **** out of Destiny's Ascension (the council ship), and killed the Rachni queen.

In another I played a neutral soldier that killed Wrex due to his treason, but saved Destiny's Ascension and freed the Rachni Queen.

The third is my latest paragon soldier, that convinced Wrex to stand down, saved the Council and freed the Rachni Queen.

Oh and I saved Ashley on all 3 saves and she was my Love interest on all, mainly because I don't go for the blue skinned, earless, smart sort of girl. >.>

I like Ash.

I also like Carth.

GODDAMN YOU BIOWARE **** YOU FOR MAKING ME CHOOSE BETWEEN MY BROS

I'll probably hold off on actually getting ME2 until it's cheap on Steam and most other people have played through it. Besides, then I can do a Vanguard on Insane difficulty, considering how not very hard Hardcore was.

Also **** killing the Rachni. I want space bugs singing songs about me.
Hey, Blue? I'm loving the things you do. From the very first time, the fight you fight for will always be mine.

I've had it since Saturday...

But Steam hasn't unlocked it yet, bastards...

I'm interested in what they will do for Mass Effect 3.

If every single choice in Mass Effect 1 will lead to something unique in Mass Effect 2, this leads to a huge amount of different start-points for Mass Effect 3, such as whether you killed Wrex or not . I'm sure there must be some poor Bioware programmer crying at the thought of this.

Also, what are the different pre-order collector's editions in-game armour that you can get? I've read about Terminus and one other. Which are you guys getting?

Steam version comes with Inferno Armor, and then some other collector armor for getting the digital deluxe version. Then of course there's the Blood Dragon armor that you can get if you also own Dragon Age.

On that subject though, I really hate this direction of preorder bonus items to make the game easier that pretty much every game is taking these days.

In a single-player game, I don't think it's a problem. It doesn't unbalance the game for anyone else, it just gives you a pleasant reward for spending a few extra bucks.

In a multi-player game, I think it is a problem. Did Modern Warfare 2 have some special gun you got automatically if you pre-ordered? I think it would be better if the pre-order bonus was entirely superficial, like you get a big glowing purple penis on your guy or something. It won't be as much of a draw for you to pre-order, but at least it won't annoy those that didn't pre-order.

I don't think MW2 really had anything (I know I didn't get anything for preordering it from Amazon).

I'm also just not a big fan of ingame item bonuses in general I guess though, be them superficial or not. I much prefer real things that have a good amount of value outside of the game, not some item that I might use at the beginning of the game for an hour or two cause it's better than what you'd normally start with. Stuff like Bioshock 2's preorder bonus on Steam that gave you Bioshock 1 for free is stuff that I like.

I think my favorite preorder bonus of all time is still the Gamecube Ocarina of Time/Master Quest disc that you got for preordering Wind Waker.

This. They doubted me, I was right, they die. The end.

Shepard 1, Council 0.

Also, I'm hoping I get lucky and the game shows up tonight, if not, I still have MGS4 to finish. (Which is a pretty epic game if you like the series)

On the note of Metal Gear Solid, I'd only played the second title, and even then I only got halfway through because I was playing a bugged, pirated copy. So if I don't know anything in MSG lore except that Snake is badass and Raiden is mostly gay looking, will I still be able to enjoy Metal Gear Solid 4?

No. Play 1, 2, and 3 first.

It would be like trying to watch the season finale to a show you've never seen before.

I can't bring myself to play old games anymore (not to mention that without backwards compatibility on the PS3, thats not possible without buying the required consoles.) Hell, I got God of War collection and have trouble playing the first because of the archaic camera and controls. XD

They're worth it. If you can get hold of a Gamecube for MGS1 and a PS2 for MGS2 and 3, I'll ship you my copies.
2010-01-25, 11:06 AM #26
I think I remember my girlfriend having a gamecube stuff in her closet back at her parent's. I'll have to ask her. As for a PS2, I'll have to shop around or see if some friend has one. Thanks for the offer!

I never played MGS1. I roughly understand what went down at Shadow Moses, but some gaps are there as well. MGS2 and 3 are great games in their own right. Raiden, well... he redeems himself in MGS4. Trumps Snake...

On the topic of story gaps.
Everyone play ME1 before two , they are as interconnected as Star Wars.

"Push her into it" might be a bit of an exaggeration. All you have to do is act unappreciative of her useless "gift of words" and she'll be all like "Oh, well then let's have sex."

I actually wasn't able to that quest last time through (I ****ed up by trying to early without speech skills high enough), I just remember it from 2008.

A Bioware employee told Giantbomb that (ME2 spoilers of low severity) ME2 begins with a discussion with various characters about the events of ME1. If continuing a savegame, this will serve to remind you of what choices you made if you've forgotten, and if you haven't played ME1 it will let you retroactively 'make' those choices and then continue ME2 as if that character had played through ME1. So while obviously preferable, as ME1 is awesome, it certainly isn't necessary to have played ME1 before playing ME2 as you'll catch up pretty soon.

I didn't read the spoilers, but I've got to say that I'd recommend playing ME1 even if there was no ME2. If you're planning on playing ME2, it seems like a no-brainer.

In response to Mort's "spoiler" - I think KOTOR II did a form of that as well. It wouldn't load a savegame, but they "asked" questions about the "past" during the intro that determined how NPCs referred to previous events.

Yeah, but if you finish the romace plot you get her/his picture on your desk and it changes some dialogue which is not covered under that.
2010-01-25, 3:28 PM #36
Maybe some of us didn't want to finish the romance plot.

Maybe some of us were happy not fraternising with the crew or having sex with a weird blue alien mindrapist.

Maybe some of us just wanted to shoot flashlight-headed robots and drive up impossible cliffs.

That's fine, I'm not saying you have to. Just telling you of a limitation.
Also you'll be disappointed, that truck doesn't exist in ME2

That might be what you wanted, but it's not what Shepard wanted. Why are you so selfish? :v:

Anyone else seem to suffer a lot of damage to the Mako's front right tire? It seems I was always using Omni-gel after a jump because that one tire took all of the fall damage.
