The images were discovered last week when the girl's phone sounded during class and the teacher confiscated it.

Talk about embarrassing, jesus

I wasn't citing 1984, I was using totalitarinism (I dont know how to spell it) as an exaggerated example of how I hope our Government wont go so far as to control our private lives, as long as no one is hurt or killed. I read part of the book when I was a teenager and was bored with it. I saw the movie a little later and I thought it was poorly directed, but it gave an interesting point of view. I dont want to start a political debate because Im not a politician, and besides Im going back to work on my project and stop wasting time with these argumentive Forums. Jon'c go ahead and continue with your arrogance and entertain your fans after winning your debates with your intimidating intelligence. I guess the Massassi is your domain

That's because they're the best kind of insults to use on a man. Better even than mom insults.

Don't discourage people from making penis insults. It tells you everything you need to know about them.
2010-01-29, 8:38 PM #51
I find it puzzling because it indicates to me that members of this forum have carefully studied the genitalia of other members, and they don't like what they've found.

Would you find it less puzzling if they liked what they found?

Not to be infantile, but it's "have" a synonym for "like" in some dialects?

It might be a lost in translation thing... I remember learning somewhere that have and like are the same thing in some language... or they're the same root verb that only differentiates depending on conjugation.

In Holland there is something called 'frisfeest', pretty freely translated it becomes something like a 'soda-party'. These parties are for kids between 12-16 (16+ is the legal age to drink < 10% alcohol), parents drop them of at these parties because it is 'the responsible thing to do'. A recent study showed that these kids kiss each other, start grinding and even have oral sex. I think everybody is exploring their sex when they've reached that age, they just shouldn't have the means to explore their sex in this kind of way. I mean, come on, interviews with these kids showed that they view women as some kind of disposable objects. Women themselves even view themselves as non-important disposable organic lifeforms.

This is just disgusting

but yeah that's pretty sad that those kids are like "hey women aren't actually people", and the women themselves think that way too!

Yeah, like the fact that they have no penis.

Completely off-topic:
What is it with people and internet that the discussion always tend to evolve in some kind of name-calling and penis-dissing flamewar? It's a discussion forum, you're supposed to discuss, if you're discussing, chance is there are two or more groups of people that share the same opinion and try to convince the other groups of their opinion. If you can't handle that, don't visit a discussion forum...

I think it's reasonable to assume that as soon as any place had picture-messaging cellphones, kids were sending each other nude pictures.
2010-01-30, 2:17 PM #69
I believe what needs to be done is impose a strict ban on kids. All of them.
Looks like we're not going down after all, so nevermind.
2010-01-30, 2:28 PM #70
We shall enforce the ban with machetes and lollipops.

Clear example of the law being used counter to its intent. I'm sure we'll be hearing about "sexting" for some time to come.

But who knows, maybe having naked pics of yourself on the web will become the new miniskirt.

But yes, Brave New World is much much much closer to what the world is becoming than 1984. 99% of the time when someone cites 1984 they've never actually read the damn thing.

It's still a good book.
2010-01-31, 12:03 PM #74
Really?

I thought it started dragging when the main character - what's his name? I never actually developed an attachment to him, or his girlfriend - found that textbook about forming an effective dictatorship, and then the novel actually became the textbook for 120 pages or so. Usually authors choose to reveal that sort of information through the narrative in a gradual and interesting way.

Orwell was a literary genius but, I have to say, 1984 felt like incoherent ranting.
2010-01-31, 2:06 PM #75
Was he not all mental with tb or something when he wrote it? I'm sure I read that somewhere.

Either way, my dad spoiled the ending when I read it, so I didn't enjoy it as much as I could have. I preferred Animal Farm. Allegory is fun.

I found it fascinating, but I agree that it didn't really fit in and feels like he was writing a book and a textbook at the same time and then glued them together.

Animal Farm is a fantastic book.

I loved 1984.. just because it's probably overly detailed doesn't mean it isn't a great piece of literature.
2010-01-31, 5:12 PM #79
Actually, flaws keep a lot of books from being great pieces of literature.
