This is quite frustrating. My computer/internet been running fine, I launched Borderlands and the whole system locked up (odd). After a hard reset, I can't get online. I get an IP address assigned from the router, but I have no internet access. If I connect to another active wireless connection (different router), Windows says there's internet access, but it still doesn't work.

I removed the overclock (E5200 has been running for a long time now at 3.24Ghz with no issues), rebooted and got nothing. I shut the power supply off, turned it back on, fired it up and POST hangs at "Memory Test".

Rebooted, then it hung up like this:

Am I ****ed? I didn't want to upgrade yet, but I will if I have to. .(

did you try popping out your CMOS battery to reset BIOS?

I pulled one stick of RAM and it got up to "Memory Testing". Pulled the other and it went up to "Memory Testin". Pulled CMOS battery and it froze at the splash screen. Tried booting with no RAM and I got the long error beep. Reinstalled CMOS battery and it's hanging at the splash screen.

I think the motherboard is fried.

well, no idea whats wrong, but getting stuck at that point seems to indicate that the computer is dead.

Yeah, that's about what I figured too.

I think you reached the right conclusion already. But if you desperate and bored enough, I would try reseating the CPU. Also if you have a spare PSU I'd give that a shot too.

It detected the CPU - you can see it just above where it locked up. There's no conceivable way it could loosen up, let alone with my heatsink squashing it down.

I do have a spare power supply..I could give it a shot, but I'm not even sure it's worth it. :/

I would still try reseating the cpu. Your right its probably pointless but what is to lose. I have seen BIOS identify Harddrives and CDROMs through faulty IDE cables maybe
it's possible for a CPU to be connected enough to pass processor id but not function completely.

This is what I'm looking at:
GIGABYTE GA-P55M-UD2 LGA 1156 Intel P55 Micro ATX Intel Motherboard - Retail
Intel Core i5-750 Lynnfield 2.66GHz LGA 1156 95W Quad-Core Processor Model BX80605I5750 - Retail
OCZ Obsidian 4GB (2 x 2GB) 240-Pin DDR3 SDRAM DDR3 1600 (PC3 12800) Desktop Memory Model OCZ3OB1600LV4GK - Retail

Does anyone foresee any issues?

I was also looking at this, but it says for AMD specifically and I'm not sure if I'd run into any weird compatibility issues..? Not sure it's worth any risk for 5 bucks.

This is what I have:
Enermax 720w
WD Black 1Tb
Samsung F2 1Tb
Seagate 1.5Tb
Sapphire Vapor-X 4890
I have an Audigy 2 ZS, but I will probably just run onboard sound.

I too would make sure the CPU heatsink is on well, make sure it's not clogged with dust and the fans are spinning. I've seen that sort of thing happen with overheating (and yes, a heatsink can look to be on VERY TIGHT but in reality not be on it at all).

All fans are good, HSF is definitely on right, not clogged up either. I'm going to let it sit overnight with the CMOS battery pulled and then try it again just for kicks.

Any thoughts on the above hardware? Total comes to $384.97 after rebate.

Your hardware choices look good. The only thing I would briefly consider is if you want features like USB 3.0 or SATA6. Gigabyte has an ATX board (you require microATX?) with those features for +$30 - http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16813128412 but there is an i5-750 combo with this board, so it would only really be like +$15.

Your brothers $50 upgrade path should be to get himself a cheap 775 motherboard and steal your old parts :)

Hahah well if I hadn't already bought the CPU for him... :P

I saw that board, but I didn't see the i5 combo. There's also a 10% off code, so it would be a total of $314.35 shipped for motherboard/processor.

I can vouch for that i5, it's great.

I can save 6 bucks if I get the CPU from eWiz and the rest from Newegg - total $389.34 shipped for a Gigabyte GA-P55-UD3, Core i5 750 and 2x2Gb Corsair DDR3 1333.

I think this is the final list:

Gigabyte GA-P55M-UD2 - $90.29 (eWiz with code CUPID14)
Intel Core i5 750 Retail - $179.99 (eWiz with code CUPID14)
G.Skill Ripjaws DDR3-1600 - $84.99 (Newegg)
