Borderlands (Steam Game Exchange?)
2010-02-12, 6:04 AM #1
Hey guys,

I bought Borderlands via Steam two days ago, and so far, hadn't been able to make it run. I've checked a bunch of threads both on Gearbox's and other forums, apparently it's a pretty common issue.

There's a couple more things I want to try tonight (eg., installing an AMD Dual Core optimizer), but if it still doesn't work, is there a way to "exchange" a game with someone (from Massassi, lets say) on Steam?

Eg., would I be able to give it to them, they check if it runs for them, and if it does, give me some other game back?

Thanks!

That wouldn't make any sense. It's the same copy of Borderlands for everyone on Steam.

He wants to give away Borderlands for a different game.. lol

Oh, some /other/ game.

Anyway, no. You cannot exchange games in any manner on Steam. One of the few downsides. Although you could possibly argue and fight with Steam's support/Borderlands support for a refund.

You tried renaming the executable to Bioshock?

Tony might not even be kidding, Koobie.
It enforces AA

or fixes framerate

Definitely install the dual core driver- IIRC it fixed issues with my old system.

Steam games are irrevocable connected to the account because the only proof of purchase would be from the credit card, which is linked to your name.
Or something, that's how I heard it works.

Some steam games are simply installed via the steam network, but really are completely separate. You could even copy them onto a different pc and crack them.
I doubt there'd be many -new- games that are like that though.

Ha! I finally got it to run! The dual core optimizer (and also disabling AVG) must've done it! Awesome!

:awesome:

I have a few people that are still low level (11 I think). If you want to run some co-op (if I can figure out how to do it), let me know. :awesome:

I need to find food, but after that I will be here alllllll night. :D

I'm L1 though (obviously), haven't really had a chance to play much yet. But as soon as I get the hang of it, I'm game. :)

BTW, my original issue was probably caused by AVG. So if anyone here decided to buy it and has problems, disable AVG (if you have it) before you run.

It's pretty easy. Shoot stuff. If you die, you respawn. Rinse, repeat. :D

Or you could go into your video driver settings and add an entry for Borderlands and copy the Bioshock settings over. All renaming the EXE does is trick the video drivers into applying settings meant for another game; why bother when you can easily change and add settings for any game?

Besides if you rename/remove the EXE Steam will put it back before it launches the game.

It was a quick and easy solution that got my textures displaying properly. And I had the boxed copy, so eh.
