Simple choice, What do you choose? Humanity or immortality?
Basicly, if you could become Data, would you?

if you lost all emotion and "humanity" you've died anyway, so I don't see what the difference is.
Only change I could see would be that your robot would have your name, whoopdidoo...

the second one is impossible anyway

Humanity... I don't want to live forever... that would suck

The second option seems to imply that you wouldn't be alive anyway.

Data is alive.

If you've lost all emotion and "humanity" what exactly are you transferring over? knowledge?
Are you simply copy-pasting your internal wiki and going bam, look I'm a robot?

Data had emotions. Not significantly so, but he had emotions, even before the chip.

Data was fully functional. Unless you included this provision because this is specifically something you are lacking. :D

I don't think I would mind being Data. He kicked alot of a$$, had good friends, and loved a few ladies. But I still dont think I would trade 'the human condition' for 10million.

Die. Unless some sort of Lee Majors style hybrid was an option. :P
nope.

transfer to robotic body under the assumption that given enough time I'd be able to get my 'humanity' back, or some equivalent.

I want to see what happens.

(also, read the book Mindscan, it deals with this issue directly, in a pretty cool way)

Die. Who wants to live forever and watch everyone else you care about get old and die while you keep on unchanged (I'm looking at you, Doctor Who).

who would answer the second option as it's currently phrased? "Lose all emotion and humanity" Not only does that sorta imply, as some have said, not being alive, but it implies a fundamentally different, and unpleasantly different, existence...

You say that, but when Shrove Tuesday comes around no-one wants to eat your pancakes for some reason.
Hey, Blue? I'm loving the things you do. From the very first time, the fight you fight for will always be mine.

Wasn't there some expanded universe character who had her brain copied into a computer, then later somehow pulled back out or something?
