It's neat in that I can basically use it as a live-disk but also run/install programs on it. So I'm going to put ScummVM as well as a Win95 virtual machine on it.

I just posted this to see if any of you had any neat Ubuntu related things to share, I'm doing this out of curiosity.

Once my laziness ends I plan I put Ubuntu on my old computer. Right now it's running XP, but I don't really need XP now since I don't game on that computer anymore. It would give me a better chance to use Linux more.

I did just that on my old rig, but I don't really have a use for it. I'm thinking about turning it into a local server box for music/movies, but I'd need to get remote desktop running on it since I need it in a different room.

Windows Home Server is great at that, my server is just a box with a network cable running out of it.

Eh, I can understand it's not exactly a paradigm shifting post, but it's a nice discussion.

Yeah, God forbid people actually discuss things here.

So, Tibby, you seem to have really educated yourself on the various ways to run operating systems so I'll pose this question to you. The older AvP game doesn't seem to run in XP. Not sure about more recent OSs but apparently the problem is a file with the same .exe name as a system file in XP, if I remember correctly. Assuming that the problem isn't resolved by running Vista or newer, what would you suggest to run this old game? I have AvP Gold and have yet to really scratch the surface of it.

Well, Honestly that's a bit above me. I have no experience with that.
However, you could try renaming the EXE (This won't effect it's working in any way), or buying the steam version which claims to be updated.

I haven't done anything too interesting, but I do keep around a bootable USB stick with the latest Ubuntu on it. I use it to install the new version over my / partition because on release day torrent+reinstall takes a lot less time than downloading and installing all the updates. /home is seaparate and thus unaffected by this process.
