I'm addicted to Borderlands :/

The second playthrough is a lot more fun than the first - people are actually dropping decent weapons fairly often, and my soldier's turret is ****ing awesome (I redid the skill tree - much more effective setup now).

For those that play, what are your characters? My soldier is..level 38, I think (on the 2nd playthrough). I have one each of the other three classes, all at 11.

I started playing in LAN with my brother, fun ****. But then he did something stupid and how he can't.

Level 10 hunter last time.
What I found I really loved about this game is the atmosphere, reminds me of a PS2 game called "Jak3"
I wish we could have continued.

I just started playing tonight. Played for like 10 minutes. Level 2 soldier. I can see myself becoming highly addicted to this game when I have time to play.

lvl 50 soldier on second playthrough, other 3 classes are scattered below lvl 15 with berserk being the highest at 14.

I just have to say, the Atlas Cyclops is ****ing awesome. That thing zooms in WAY TOO FAR! You can easily pick off a head shot from farther away than the game will spawn enemies. I actually have to run up to spawn someone then run as far away as possible to really use that gun. I love it.

:awesome:

I will have to find that, then. I've come across a couple truly epic guns, but unfortunately I've leveled past their practical use. I do have a spiffy revolver now that does x4 explosions - blows krags all to hell. :hist101:

What's the best way to distribute skill points? I have mine thrown mostly into the turret (fast cooldown, max damage, max healing) and into my shields (quick charge and the kill-someone-to-charge). I figured as long as I stay alive, I can keep shooting 'till they're dead. :P

By the way, does this game offer widescreen support, or what?

Yes, I ran it in full HD.

That's weird... it doesn't display any widescreen resolutions in the options... maybe I need a patch or something.

I have a Brick level 14 or something, was playing split-screen with my brother. I didn't really like the Brick all that much, I only used the special ability to run away from bad guys, I was otherwise too weak to go toe to toe with multiple enemies.

It is quite weak to begin with, but if you put skill points into it it becomes ridiculously powerful.
I have a lvl 50 brick and got pretty much everything in the beserk tree maxed out, he flies (sting like a bee, lets you leap punch if they are a distance away, useless till you put a few skills into it) all over the place crushing skulls.

Hunter, currently lvl 40. Using the Volcano sniper rifle, the 4x Fire wrecks havoc. When I finish the 2nd run I'll start another character.

I didn't like the soldier's skill(s) much either until I was higher level - they really become much, much more powerful.

With Lilith I also found it very handy to put just one point into the skill that adds venom to your melee attack.

I just ran my berserker and hawk guy up to level 13. Lilith is still 11. Solder is 37 (halfway to 38, I think).

I had been putting Lilith's skill into phasewalking - should I go into elemental instead?

Is it true that it is substantially less fun without other people to the point that it's not worth playing? I wanted to pick it up but nobody I know on live plays and I have heard it's a snooze by yourself. I need something to fill the gaping hole of disappointment that MW2 has left me with, besides ME2.

It's a blast with more than one person (though my brother liked to run around and open chests while I killed stuff...), but it's entertaining by yourself too. Almost like Serious Sam, but less crazy and more open. Oh, and guns. Lots of guns. :D

I've really been trying to play this, but unfortunately it crashes constantly. It's really fun, but it would be nice if I could play for more than 15 minutes before it crashed.

Is it updated? I haven't had it crash yet and I even alt-tab it constantly.

I've been using the Game Ranger app to play with people. I usually just open a room and start the game and other people join at will. I beat the first playthrough in co-op! It was awesome. If you guys want to set up a time to play pm me.

Antony I get crashing when I alt-tab out..randomly. Is that what is happening to you?

I'll take a pic of my skill tree tomorrow and post it. I put a lot into the turret and maxed out the rocket shooting ability and the amount of shots in each burst. I also maxed out the magazine size upgrade for all guns. I love the 60% increase in magazine size. Combined with my Support Gunner mod, it makes my awesome Hunter's Bulldog (shotgun) go from 20 rounds to 39! I can kill damn near anything short of a boss without reloading. And it's fast at that when I need to. I wish I had Live, I've never played with anybody else :(

No, I just get random hangs and crashes. It's really irritating because it's a load of fun to play. I don't know if I need a patch or not, but I cut the graphics detail a bit and it didn't lock up for a few hours. That doesn't make much sense to me because it ran perfectly fine with the details pretty high. Oh well, looks like I don't get to play pretty borderlands.

EDIT: I learned the hard way to do the missions in the proper order. It's not necessarily linear, but if you want to progress without getting your *** handed to you constantly, doing the missions in a certain order seems to be crucial.

That rule only applies near the start of the game, it doesn't take long for you to level up so much that doing all the missions would mean you being way too high a level for half of them =\

until what is referred to as playthrough 2.5, where you select playthrough 2 again (meaning, you finished pt2 and are doing it again) and then everything is 50+)

I'm downloading the patch. I hope it's not as much of a pain in the *** to install as the game itself was.

Maybe your computer is screwed up - I had no issues with installation, nor did I have any issues with either patch.

There have been a lot of people have trouble installing the game. The installers UI has a bunch of bugs in it, and there are segments of the installation that are impossible to install on many computers, so the game will just hang. In order to get around it you've got to run setup.msi from command prompt with no UI, and that's if secu-rom doesn't flip out because it doesn't like something about your internet connection.

There doesn't seem to be any clearly defined reason as to why the installer doesn't work well on some systems. It's just bizarre.

I'll be playing around 21:00 GMT+1, so if anyone cares to give co-op a try, it'd be pretty cool. Just hope that my inets won't die horribly (like they did yesterday).

So I've played with some random folks online. They seemed to be very nice and very laid back (even though I was not in the clearest state of mind and was using a mike).

So I liked that bit.

Talking about microphones, there's no microphone button - it's always turned on by default (and has a terrible voice detection threshold, even after I've edited the value WillowEngine.ini).

What I didn't like, though, is that only the host can take missions / quest items. I was always confused about which mission we're doing and who's doing what. I'd say that for me so far the single player experience had been more enjoyable than the multiplayer one, all things considered.

I think anybody can complete a quest (at least if it's one you haven't done yourself yet) and everyone will get credit for it. But yeah, only the host can choose the active quest. :/

I can confirm an i5, with a 5770, Win7 x64, and 4 gigs of ram works fine.
