I don't think they'll care... they'll keep playing Starcraft.

lol there was a bunch of Koreans at the CC library today playing SC shouting out **** in Korean to each other.
It was intense. One computer even had TWO Koreans playing together.

The old guard are just going to say SC2 sucks and keep playing SC anyway.

I just got an invite. I don't know what to do. I've got 3 huge essays due in 2 weeks time and a dissertation proposal to write... there's no way I have time to play!

I'm also really surprised I got selected since the specs on the laptop I used to register my account aren't exactly amazing.

That's probably why, actually. They don't want to test on just high end systems, they want to check the entire spectrum.

Maybe I'll get better, but I've entirely ignored a majority of RTS' because I'm so terrible at them. I can barely beat star craft's single player on easy. I don't plan on getting this ever.

In all seriousness, get your homework done first. I vaguely remember your stories about SC addiction.

yeah, that did occur to me, Cool Matty. I've decided to sign up, seems silly not to. I'm just going to have to be very strict with how much I play!

Haha, thanks Kirbs. Don't worry though, I'm a far far far better student now than I used to be when I was here everyday. I wouldn't let this stand in the way of me getting work done. I'm mostly hoping the beta period lasts long enough for me to play properly when the semester finishes at the end of March.

Star Craft single player doesn't have difficulty settings.

I dunno, lurker spamming the AI can lead to a win in 5 minutes if you choose to.

I didn't think it did when I wrote that, but yeah I was bad at it either way. I enjoyed Tzar and other random RTS's that didn't require any skill at all and they had difficulty settings.

Oh the agony. My inferior laptop probably got me my beta account... and it's too inferior to play!

I loaded it up last night for a quick try, with the justification that it was too late (10.30pm) to do any useful work, so I may as well do something fun.

It's so pretty... and seems to be very well meshed with the original so can be picked up immediately, but I got tantalising tastes of new stuff... then after about 20 minutes I had to quit because the lag was just unbearable. All settings down to minimum and it still didn't run properly!

If the beta is still going when my course finishes I'll just wipe everything from my laptop and have another go.

I know how you feel, but with a much less of an awesome game, Lego Universe. I got in the beta too, and my laptop is like a sped trying to keep up in math class. lags behind. throw anything too much at him, and he completely stalls.

I've been wondering if they are going to end up reusing a lot of the assets for a Star Craft MMO. I figure they're giving WoW a few more years and trying to go ahead and recoup some of the costs of pre-developing a SC MMO.
