If we're going to be pirating movies, we might as well pirate software too. :)

P.S. That was a joke. Sorta...

P.S.S. There are freeware applications that probably do the same thing, though maybe not quite as good. I don't personally rip Blu-Ray because none of my computers have a Blu-Ray player but I've used similar applications for years that are free & work rather well for DVDs (e.g. HandBrake).
? :)

It is pricey. I upgraded mine to AnyDVDHD just in case right before they went to the annual renewal for updates. I would say, though, unless you really need the seemless intergration or HD ripping of AnyDVD it probably isn't worth the price. Unless you're a pirate.

I haven't "pirated" a movie since Netflix. I've streamed a few here and there that weren't available anywhere else. I'd say the same about music if there were a universal monthly service, too.

As an Aussie netflix isn't really an option, not a smart one anyway.
You can't judge a book by it's file size

ahh, those american dvd/bluray publishers and their unskippable stuff upon insertion of the disk.

I can honestly say that of all the DVDs from Australia (as I have imported quite a few from the US, though I cant import blu-rays yet as I only have a ps3, which cant do out of region blu-rays), only a VERY small number of them have even had trailers at the start, and I dont think any of them were unskippable, and we only get one warning at the start.

Hell, even the stuff I HAVE imported rarely has trailers on it, though it may just be the stuff that we have imported isnt popular enough that companies pay to have unskippable ads on it.

Yeah, it does stream in HD for some movies (I think about 10% of their streaming catalog). It's 720p. You can see the list here: http://www.netflix.com/wihd/

I've never gotten a cracked bluray from netflix. Actually we've been members since 2002 or something and we've only had about 3 unplayable disks in that entire time.

Huh, the cracked thing must be regional I guess. Also, link no worky.

Maybe you have to be logged in? The "real" link at the end of the redirect is:

http://www.netflix.com/WiHD

Works for me... either way.

I do remember being very disappointed that I couldn't stream movies via Netflix on my laptop while in France. :(

Netflix streaming is lame because they've yet to put in 5.1 surround.

I've been noticing more & more instant movies lately that have audio synch issues as well. I've reported several but I suppose they're swamped because it's taking a long time to get them fixed.

As far as damaged discs, I've only had about 3 or 4 in as many years, so I can't really complain.

Are those of you that are from other countries sure that you don't have a Netflix equivalent? When I was in France I found out that they have something similar to Netflix called Glowria.

Currently doing the right thing is the HARD option and pirating is (by far) the EASY option. The studios should focus on appealing hassle free content delivery instead of trying to screw pirates, failing, and just driving away consumers who would have paid otherwise. It doesn't make pirating right, of course it's wrong, but honestly...PAYING for the restrictive HARD option is more than a little bit ass backwards.

I'd gladly pay for some kind of movie download system akin to Steam. Infact it's been years since I even considered pirating a PC game because of Steam.

Steams DRM is awesome and extremely unintrusive.

Agreed. I honestly can't imagine buying a game with this kind of copy protection--I have pretty on again, off again internet, not to mention I spend a lot of time on laptops.

I'm the last person who'll say piracy is right (which isn't to say I don't or won't do it) but I've yet to see a game that wasn't immediately cracked, and I don't expect to any time soon.

Yeah. Steam's problematic in this respect--the offline mode is supposed to be a band-aid, but it doesn't work unless you switch to offline mode while you are still online. Which means you can't boot up and play a Steam game offline unless you planned for it the day before.

On the other hand, if you're logged into Steam and THEN lose internet access, the fact that it still works fine is nice.

It's been cracked, but yeah it did take a while.
Game was a complete failure though, monthly fees for public transit?
