How can I help make the ISB better?
2010-02-20, 11:32 PM #1
So let's pretend that you're interested in this topic. How can you and I make the Interactive Story Board a more active and enjoyable place for all? I ask because I'd like to have it live on without me, and this hiatus I've been taking shows that it would not.

Should there be more interactive stories to join? Should there be more traditional stories that focus solely on delivering an enjoyable read?

Are there any genres you wish were available? Would we want something based on Star Wars?

Would there be interest in free-form role-playing and other story-based games? Could non-story games that I've run on the discussion board in the past have a place on the ISB?

Is there anything that you wish was different about the ISB in general, whether it makes sense or not?

Thank you for any serious help you have on the matter.

The only thing I really see is missing is people, and I'm part of that problem.
I wondered in the past, would an interactive LP be out of the scope of the ISB? What I mean by that is like, I play Civ4 or something and people vote on what major choices I should make turn by turn.

There are some awful things that should stay on something awful.

The Paradox LPs are awesome thank you very much.

Would basically reposting the same LP here make them more awesome or less awesome?

Rhetorical question, the answer is less awesome.

I'm not sure what LP stands for, but I think I get the gist from what you described. While Jon`C might feel they're a bad idea (and perhaps they are), I'm open to any number of ideas that will increase the ISB community and its activity, and the general premise seems like something I would think could fit on the ISB.

The only thing I have in mind at the moment is to start a new thread based off of previous forum games (such as Katzenjammer). I'm mostly debating whether I want to do one game at a time or pack a bunch of them together at the same time.

Lets play, Basicly somebody plays a game and posts about it. Some damn good ones have been made with video, and the Paradox and 4X ones where the forums members participate can be quite interesting.

Honestly the whole ISB is basically tl;dr

So should threads like Six Words be encouraged more often, or do ISB threads not need to be so extreme in brevity?

I don't think LPs are a bad idea. I ran one, in fact. It's just that there's already an entire internet forum dedicated to LPs, and Tibby posts on it, and they have the audience to support LPs and we don't.

If stories were more episodic, I think it'd be easier for anyone to quickly read what's happening currently and throw a funny/interesting addition in.
