[TECH] JK Doesn't work with 64 bit systems?

Ok I know this question and topic has been done/beaten to death but I can't find any resources on google and I've looked through the forum pages as far as I can possibly go and I can't find anything on it, not to mention reviving old topics is a no-no.

I can't seem to install JK on my Win7 64 bit system.. Every time I go to run the installer it gives me the following error:

"The program or feature \??J:install\setup.exe cannot start or run due to incompatibility with 64 bit versions of Windows. Please contact the software vendor to ask if a..blah blah"

I thought this game worked with 64 bit versions? I can't find instructions on a manual install if that's even possible so I dunno where to start with that.. All of the compatibility settings also don't work, setting to XP or Win 98 mode.. etc..

:(

We need to sticky this one this time, perhaps make a general "JK F.A.Q" Thread.
On the hub there is a tutorial on how to do a manual install. I'm looking for it.

Bam.
Probably going to need the 3D fix too- http://www.jkhub.net/project/get.php?id=1804

Yeah I think the forum should have a sticky thread dedicated to all things JK... It sorta fits with the forum and its history I think :D

Thanks a lot Tibby I'll be givin it a try soon..

Yeah 64-bit Windows drops support for most 16-bit applications, with the exception of a few installers which JK's doesn't seem to be detected as (probably not a popular one back then).

I just ran in to the same problem on Windows 7 (64-bit) that Temperamental is having, even after using the first link that Tibby provided. However, I wasn't aware of the 2nd link until I read this thread so I'm going to give it another shot.
? :)

I never heard this, I wonder what 16bit installers are supported and if you could do some .exe renaming to trick Win7.

See, I just said "**** it" and shelled out the pennies for it on Steam.
Hey, Blue? I'm loving the things you do. From the very first time, the fight you fight for will always be mine.

Still having issues... Now I can get into the game but when the LA logo pops up on screen it's all multicolored and pixelated and then the game just crashes and I get the error saying "This program has stopped responding"... Even with the ddraw.dll fix you posted :(

Run it with -windowgui.
(As in, create a shortcut and put that at the end of the target line)

Beautiful Tibby. Everything works perfectly now..

If it werent pushing the envelope a bit... This doesn't seem to work with JK Enhanced or other mods... When I add the -windowgui to the shortcut for JK Enhanced it runs with the same issue and crashes. No way to get around this?

You should run JKE through a batch file, if you already do (I think it was provided with one), just edit it and add -windowgui.

I swear I read somewhere it did, but I can't find it anymore. I haven't seen it personally.

It doesn't support 16 bit, period.

Maybe you're talking about their compatibility tools which is basically just xp in a vm?

It is just XP in a vm, and it's utterly useless too.
