Oh man. I want the USA to win, because. Well. But I have to root for Russia, because Ovechkin is the local hero.

Has the US gone against Russia yet?
(This year)

No.

And they are tied in points.

We won, hell yes.

Canada plays the winner of the Sweden-Slovakia game in the semis. Could see another US-Canada gold medal game. That would be awesome.
Pissed Off?

I hope the US plays Canada in the gold medal game.. The first time they played it was an epic game at certain points (breakaway after breakaway after breakaway) but Canada played sloppy most of that one. If both teams bring their A games to a gold medal match (hoping both make it) it will be a ****ing amazing hockey game.
2010-02-25, 3:45 AM #15
The first USA Canada game was pretty awesome. I wouldn't mind seeing a rematch, as long as USA wins.

I must say that I could usually give 2 ****s about the Olympics but I've watched several events this year & have really enjoyed it. I suspect that maybe it has something to do with my country actually doing well.
? :)

All the games were good, close and competitive except for the Canada / Russia game, which was the one I was looking forward to the most. I really lost interest in the third period when Canada was just burning time.

Russian skaters are all incredible hot.

Yes, even the manly ones.

Some of my worst Zamboni ice makes occurred when there were Russian skaters on the side of the rink.

therefore,they should ****ing win.

Oh god, Tatiana (or however the **** you spell your name) just don't hurt me with your burly Russian biceps....

Has anyone noticed the womens curling teams have some incredibly attractive members on them?
2010-02-25, 4:07 PM #23
2-0 right now for Canada in the Gold medal game between the Canadian and USA women.

What? Who cares about women's hockey?

Don't know if you're talking about two specific teams, but I've definitely seen a few hot curlers.

The winter olympics in general seem to be packed with hotties now. It used to all old women, but it seems like there's a huge new wave of 20-24 year old athletes.

Nice to see us take the gold in Women's hockey, but the real test lies ahead in Men's hockey. Ryan Miller is just ****ing awesome, and the Slovaks are not to be underestimated either. Hopefully the men's team can elevate their play for two more games.

Good pickup for Boston, they need all the scoring they can get. Surprised more teams weren't interested in him.

Yes I completely agree. Tonight for example, Joannie Rochette? Definitely smoking IMO.

I don't know what's funnier... The fact that you don't realize there are tons of womens hockey fans all over the world, or the fact that even though they're "women" they're still better hockey players than you and I could ever hope to be, right down to the worst player on the last place finishing team. :D

You talk as if team USA has already beaten Finland in the semifinal game that is being played in about 7 and a half hours from now. We will probably/hopefully put up a good fight, I cannot even remember the last time we lost against USA in a knockout game...
Looks like we're not going down after all, so nevermind.

Go Finland! **** America :hist101:

Though I'm canadian, I'm really rooting for the Slovaks, because they have Halak, and I really, really want him to get this one. That son of a ***** has had a great season so far in the NHL and he deserves the best.

The perfect case of David and Goliath.

I wont be betting my house on it however.

She's from my city and hangs out with some of my girl friends. Never met her personally though. Its been really sad what happened with her mother, dying from a heart attack hours after landing in Vancouver to go encourage her daughter. She's been through a lot and it just shows her strength of character to go through with this anyways, and manage to snatch the bronze regardless. I wonder how well she'd have done, had she not been shaken by such sudden loss.

Edit: My girlfriend just told me she's related to Joannie. I didn't even know that. Neat, maybe I'll meet her eventually.

My girlfriend actually looks like Joannie Rochette, it's really weird. We were talking about it the other day and she had never heard of her before, I pointed her out and she got a little freaked out.

I wish she had have won the Gold, but still she's definitely strong to pull something like that off let alone compete.

Women's hockey is really bad compared to men's. I'm pretty positive my high school team could have beat the olympic women's teams. They generally don't make great passes and when they do they often let it bounce off of their stick. They are also not that fast.

The men's olympic hockey though. Wow, they are truly amazing athletes. They're like watching a video game because they're so fast and their hands are so good.

I'd love to see Canada vs. USA in the gold medal round but since the Canadian's made the smart move of starting Luongo the US is going to have a tough time getting pucks by him. A few of their goals in their previous game were products of Brodeur's mistakes.

Hopefully the women's game will continue to grow and get more competitive. Right now Canada has 75,000+ women's hockey players, whereas the vast majority of their competition only has ~300 playing in their entire country. NONE of which are professionals, as there are no female professional leagues.

To compare it to the men's game right now is just crazy. The Canadian olympic women's team scrimmages against high level midget boys teams, so they basically play at the level of elite 15-16 year old boys. It's very possible that they could lose to a good high school team. One thing that impressed me about the women's play at the olympics this year was the physicality and the amount of hits that were being allowed. Maybe some day there will be full contact in national women's hockey competition, but I don't know if thats fair given the size differential of the players and the skill discrepancies between nations.
