I am looking to sell my laptop and haven't been in the market for computers in a couple of years and so I don't know the price I should be asking for it. I figured I would post it here and hope you guys can help me out.

It's a Dell Inspiron E1705 and was $2000 new like a few years ago:
-17" monitor, nothing wrong with any part of the screen
-2 Ghz dual core processor, intel
-2 GB DDR2 ram
-Nvidia GO 7900 GS video card, 256MB
-80GB storage
-Lithium ion 9v battery that I replaced about a month ago, so its getting about 2 hours battery life unplugged (I know, this is why I want a new laptop, preferably a netbook or something small)
-Windows Vista Enterprise with Microsoft Office Suite
-Dell laptop case would come with it

Oh, it is missing a right arrow key, but if I were to find a seller I would replace the keyboard, which I should probably do anyways since it's kind of faded.

It works just like its new. It's pretty quick for a couple years old laptop, it can run Fallout 3 pretty well or Left 4 Dead 2, but those are the most recent games I've tried. It even ran Crysis back in my dorm days. Does not run Dragon Age very well :P (though it is capable!). I bought it when I was younger and stupid thinking I wanted a portable gaming machine for university, and it did that pretty well (WoW), but I recently got my brothers desktop for that and now I want a netbook for school. Can anyone tell me what I should be asking for something like this?

Anyway, I strongly recommend taking your PC model number (or numbers of similar models) to eBay or craigslist and see what other people are asking for it. Note that on eBay you can go to "advanced search" and check "completed listings only" and it will show you auctions that are finished so you can see the final price.

BTW - be careful about wanting a netbook. I have one, and while i love it, it's NOT a replacement for a full size laptop which I also have. The small keyboard is a PITA and so is the small screen. I really just use it to "get it in, grab the info I need, and get out." It is great for carrying around though which means great for school. Just make sure you know what you're getting into. I got the Asus that has a 10 hour battery (which really means like 8 hour battery, which is still pretty kickass....I charge it like I charge my cell phone and don't carry the power cord around with me).

I just wrote a 6 page opinion paper on my Acer Aspire One, I write on it all the time. (Although I was using a macbook pro keyboard before this, so it wasn't such a huge leap)

My netbook has more or less replaced my macbook pro, which now functions are a desktop. Only things I can't really do on it is watch HD videos & play games, which I don't really do on campus anyway.

For some reason I always have a difficult time making an appraisal on computers. This is going to sound odd, I think because I am constantly shopping for computer tech my estimation of value is completely offbase with Average Joe. Part of it might also be, I hate telling people how quickly their computer depreciates in value.

Usually I start by comparing your system to what a similar system would cost new. Making a fair comparison is tough, because that videocard is still very desirable. But after a quick search I find this :

http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16834101222

Intel Core i5 430M(2.26GHz)
17.3"
4GB Memory DDR3 1066
500GB HDD 5400rpm
ATI Mobility Radeon HD 5650
for $850

Clearly better in every regard and brand new. Yours is used, probably no manufacturers warranty left, harddrive is small by todays standards probably 50gb remaining after a Vista/Office install. If you replaced the keyboard and I was in the market for this I might pay $550.

But now remember what I said about Average Joe- give him some information showing it was worth 2k brand new two years ago and you might still be able to find someone willing to give you much more.

I'l give you $200 for it if your battery works longer than 45 minutes.

In my experience, laptops are pretty unreliable. I had a fuсktop once and it just kind of broke one day. Plus, Thrawnumbarz has had two laptops which were broken beyond repair within a few years of buying them. They just don't seem like a safe investment IMO.

Drizz, since you are coming from a relatively baller laptop, I don't think any netbook will be appropriate for you. But if you do insist, Asus 1201N has a dual core Atom processor, 12" 720p resolution screen, with a Tegra chip thats capable of 1080p playback. But it is not cheap though, its about 5 bills.

It does, and no. And I do insist on a net book or something close to it. I have an extremely good desktop now and use my laptop ONLY for hulu, word processing, and reading forums nowadays. It seems to me that I should sell it for as much as I can before it keeps becoming worth less and try and get something smaller.

It just seemed odd to me, what with the censors and whatnot.
