hilarious archived massassi threads.

I have been looking at old massassi threads (both archived here and on the wayback machine), and have found some ones that are quite interesting.

like this one, it realy shows how computers have changed. http://web.archive.org/web/20040722161943/forums.massassi.net/html/Forum1/HTML/036040.html

A few comments on the future are funny, both in overestimating progress and underestimating.

mmm, politics

http://web.archive.org/web/20011006000837/forums.massassi.net/html/Forum1/HTML/016651.html

http://web.archive.org/web/20011005232400/forums.massassi.net/html/Forum1/HTML/016810.html

two of the threads that was probably responsible for the creation of the infamous reliogous forum section (which probably had either people who only posted there, or people who had alternate acounts specificaly for posting there.)

http://web.archive.org/web/20020507002103/forums.massassi.net/html/Forum1/HTML/020493.html

the thread announcing the closing of registrations due to a massive troll attack

Ill leave it to you to find other pieces of history. (remember, the discussion forum goes back to the end of 2003)

also, if anyone has pre 2004 backups on hand, post some.

A good CPU would be about 20 Ghz, RAM would be around 4 or 8 gigs, and HDs would have about 2 Tb of space. Monitors probably won't have much more resolution than you see today, but the standard will have improved (and most likely all monitors will be widescreen, or maybe 3D). CDs will probably still be blu-ray though.

Massassi as it was right before the worm hit. Read .cgi files, not the .html.

How many people remember when Massassi was hosted by jedinights.com? :)

http://web.archive.org/web/19990129021707/www.jedinights.com/massassi/
http://web.archive.org/web/20000302184932/http://massassi.jedinights.com/ (the forums are accessible)
http://web.archive.org/web/20000831045034/www.jedinights.com/downloads/jediknight/levels/index.html (many of the downloads still work)
http://web.archive.org/web/20000815235603/www.jedinights.com/jkeb/

I realize that the last few links aren't really Massassi but it still brings back memories. :)

This pleases me.
Hey, Blue? I'm loving the things you do. From the very first time, the fight you fight for will always be mine.

CM you are serving those CGI files with a bad mime type :( Chrome doesn't know what to do with them.

They're not being served with any mime type I believe. I tried setting various mime types but it didn't seem to make any difference.

I liked the old threaded forums. I remember being very bothered when topics would rise to the top in the new ones, preferring them instead to remain where they were like in the old ones.

Only thing I see is the mime type. :( application/* mime types are usually downloaded by browsers.

http://forums.massassi.net/vb3/showthread.php?t=176

found an epic massassi debate, one that involved one of the more infamous members of the religous forum. (nauree, who if I remember correctly broke up with a friend because that friend started playing everquest)

(also the thread that I got one of my old sig quotes from, before the mean mods made me shorten it >.> <.<)

http://forums.massassi.net/vb3/showthread.php?t=3864

the epic thread on the playschool (australian children's show) "my two mums" controversy (which was about a birth mother and a step mother anyway), most famous for being the thread where obi_kwiet became a regular poster (mostly by being the major contributor to the arguing)

Though, unfortunatly, the best debates (mostly the firefox vs. dogsrool debates) were on the religious forums, and only a handful of threads survive on the internet archive (due to the "show threads from the last two days" option being the default), those were some epic debates, the likes of which will probably never be seen again (unless the mods go insane and put the religious forums back up.)

How do I use .cgi files?

Also, what's with all of the " This site is defaced!!! " links? I wasn't here before 2005.
2010-02-26, 7:08 PM #21
A worm hit the site back then, due to another hosted website on the Massassi server having a huge security exploit.

The CGI files are just text, open them in notepad or whatever.

The only reason your guess was wrong with 20ghz was because you were using ghz as a way to compare CPU speed. I bet if you used something more abstract like just overall performance from benchmarks, the ratio would be the same.
