100% and then some.
Lot more focus on the grappling hook now too, instead of just being this thing you attached to cars, you can now grapple to any object.
You can also grapple two people together, or say, a car to a helicopter and then fly around and hit people with the car.
The list is endless and the videos of it are insane, I can tell it's going to take a bit to get used to doing it myself though

This demo reminds me of the Mercenaries 1 demo, and I mean that in the best possible way.
Ever since Pandemic ****ed up Mercs 2 I have been waiting for someone to make it the right way.
This is it.

I have to wonder much the Retail game will differ from the Demo, I didnt see any difficulty settings but you can take a crazy amount of damage before dying. I purposely stood on a pile of explosives and triggered them and it barely hurt. You can do some amusing things. I enjoyed stealing a Helicopter, and then putting it in autopilot apparently while I hung from my grapple hook shooting at people. The Physics effects look awesome on explosions and inanimate objects but it's far too ragdoll on the player and AI. Who stole my skeleton?

Lately I havent been impressed with any of the Sandbox style games, I'll probably wait until its been heavily discounted on Steam before I buy it.

Is the original worth 15 bucks?
2010-03-05, 2:14 PM #12
Not really. Just play the demo for number 2

The original doesn't even have widescreen support.
2010-03-05, 8:03 PM #14
The original is poorly done, quite buggy, gameplay isn't quite right...

The second one, is ridiculously awesome, new contender for best sandbox game ever.

Bear in mind that this is just a demo, and although it's great.
This isn't the final product.

I maintain, as usual, cautious optimism.
Also the demo time crack has been released online, obviously I can't link it.

Oh, yeah I used a cheat program and worked out how to get infinite time a while ago, should've shared it here >_>

For me, the time seemed to keep going down (except in the map screen) until I put it at 0, at which case it would declare time had expired, but it would not finish the game, I could also then go as far outside of the starting area as I wanted (not recommended though, they didn't code much of that into the demo, and fair enough)

Also the first time I did it, it screwed up with the parachute for some reason, made it so the chute would immediately drop me down instead of letting me float around.
Subsequent times haven't had that result though, so it's all good

Any cool things to share, you seem to know your way around,?
I found a plane, but it doesn't have guns and I can't hang on the side :C

makes me wish I had Windows 7
2010-03-06, 4:40 AM #21
if you pushed stun jump you should hang from the bottom with a grapple.
Hanging off the actual sides is usually what you do when you've grappled an occupied plane and try to break in (yes, you can mid-air hijack)
You seem to only be able to climb around vehicles that would be occupied by enemies, since those are the only times you'd need to climb around and shoot them off.
Cool things in general are grappling hook related ;)
I've hooked guys to explosives, guys to cars, guys to helicopters, guys to other guys...
I've hooked onto a fuel tank and shot it as I reeled in, causing me to blow back almost as far as I was to begin with.

I always start off exiting the camp by grappling a large rock and parachuting before I get there, slingshotting myself across. My main mode of travel is parachute and grappling the ground to pull myself along.

Either that or sitting on top of a car so I can grapple people to it as we go along.

To unlock new missions/equipment you have to 'clear' areas. Starting camp is easy, there are two things to pickup and one transformer to destroy (that you see immediately)
That's the main trick, it's not just blowing everything up to clear a town, it's also picking up the 'upgrade boxes'.

Oh, and I should say by 'worked out how to get infinite time' I mean 'saw it on the steam forums' >_>

Once you get infinite time going and you can relax and play around with your capabilites you learn more about what you can really do with the game

I always grapple onto one of the upright compressed gas tanks, shoot it as I approach, then let it carry me into the air. The explosion hurts a little, but it sends me flying way fast at an altitude of about 2000 feet. :awesome:

Thanks for letting me download it on XP without telling me I couldn't play it, STEAM
2010-03-06, 11:14 AM #24
You can grapple onto the tank, stay attached and just shoot it once, it'll start flaming out the bottom and fly you up rocket-style.

The airplane is fun, too. I flew it over to the big radar dome station. Lots of BOOM.

I like the truck with the cannon on top.

This game is so much fun. The most fun is finding new ways of hooking bad guy to this that move or go boom.

Also, the voice acting in this game is terrible. Especially BOLO SANTO-SI.

With a name like the "Reapers" I'm fully expecting Cobra Commander to lead these guys.
2010-03-06, 2:50 PM #27
I kept expecting Shepard to show up.
2010-03-06, 7:08 PM #28
The voice acting seems a bit laughable in the demo. Oh and I swear the main protagonist is like Spider-Man or something. He can jump from a moving bike to the front of a moving car. As someone already mentioned, he can grapple to pretty much anything.

this game is awesome.

I love how the level design basically kicks Far Cry 2 in the face, repeatedly

Voice acting in the first game was laughable too, I've heard three theories:

1. It's some island no-one's ever been on before, so they made up a unique accent, that's how they're supposed to talk

2. It's being campy on purpose, cheesey dialogue to go along with the over-the-top action

3. They suck at voice acting / getting voice actors
