RIT's pipe is 1.215 GBps (with no one on). It's not uncommon to get a good 8 MBps on the internet if the server is capable of the transfer rates (not often).

100 Mbit broadband isn't terribly uncommon here in Sweden. I know at least three people who've got it.

I get 16MBps + very often while at RIT.

They usually have about 7-10 mbps cable, megabits that is. And they have caps on the incoming/outgoing amount of info. Like my friend has a plan where it's capped at 20 gigs incoming, 10 gigs outgoing for the month.

100 mbps is well. Bullsh**. My cousins computer supposedly goes that fast (says it on the little status thing) and yet i gauruntee i dont download stuff that fast on his computer.

3 years ago i was making passive optical components for long haul, metro and local access networking that should increase existing bandwidth by 400 times.

I WANT MY FRIGGIN' BANDWIDTH!! NOW!!

these components were bought up like they were going out of style for companies like nortel and marconi to put them in place.

That's just how fast the connection is capable of going, not the speed he gets on the intarweb.

btw, 5 years ago, my buddy jean cretien pledged $3 billion to make sure everyone in canada had high speed access. we're getting there.
