The First Console I Ever Owned

Just some curiosity, and since a comprehensive list is a bit too much for a poll, I'm just doing developers. :hist101:

Also I left off anything like a ZX Spectrum that was meant as a general home computer. :P
nope.

SNES, wanted a playstation in the worst way, but so glad I settled with my parents suggestion of the SNES first. Still have it today in great working condition.

I was born in the 90s and the first console I owned was a Master System. :P
nope.

Weren't Amiga's supposed to be general home computers too, though? I remember our 600 was closer to a computer than a console.

Sega Genesis. The one with the red strip that said 16bit and the volume slider.

My mom and dad bought a NES when I was a newborn to give my mom something to do when staying home with me. Apparently I slept way more than a normal baby and my mom would get bored.

To this day my mom and dad are still pretty game savvy.

Never owned a console, but my parents did get an Atari 520ST the year before I was born; that was my first introduction to computers.

This is me playing some sort of alphabet game on it in 1989:

I MIGHT have had a gameboy before my sega, but the first console I had was a Genesis. Then I got a GameGear, which I still play. Then I got a PSX for a birthday and then I bought a PS2 and now I only play hand helds. PSP/DS.

I had a really old PC with chips challenge on it before I got a sega, and will always be a PC gamer.

SNES, then a Game Boy, then a Sega Genesis, then a Game Gear, then the Game Boy Color (Best Gameboy ever, FYI), then the N64, then the Gamecube, then the self-bought PS2, then the PSP, then the Wii, then the DS Lite, then the 360.

Oh, and I received my uncle's Atari 2600 and Commodore 64 somewhere early on in that list.

Atari. 2600 I think it was.

:carl:

Dude, Amiga was a home computer, just like the C64, only much better.

Yeah for some reason I was picturing an Atari Jaguar in my head when I typed that in. :P
nope.

Sega Genesis. Mine didn't have red tape or a slider on it though. I remember the first game I played on it was the arcade Terminator 2 shooter. Game was legit.

It was working until last year. My sister and I would hook it up every now and then to play sonic or paperboy, but one day we tried and it just wouldn't play any games no matter how much we blew into those damn cartridges :(
It took a while for you to find me; I was hiding in the lime tree.

Nintendo Sixty-FOOOOOOOOOOOOOOUUUUUUUR!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

My brother, who is 9 years older than me, had both an Atari 2600 as well as the NES, so I got to grow up on those before the N64 came out.

NES.

Anybody who never owned an NES or SNES has never really enjoyed the pinnacle of console gaming.

When I was little my whole family would have Tetris wars, Duck hunt wars, Super Mario Bros, those were the days.
2010-03-05, 5:41 PM #21
My mom got me an NES when I was 6 after I carried on about my friend's. ;) I remember being captivated by Duck Hunt, Super Mario Brothers, as well as SMB2 and 3. And Battletoads, but that was later. And very difficult.

Just noticed your sig: ""it is time to get a credit card to complete my financial independance" — Tiberium_Empire, Aug. 2009"

Funny, I'm sure some would think that should be mine. You know, now that they have cracked down on issuing credit I have to admit that the traditional way of going into debt to increase your "I Love Debt" [FICO] score is probably far easier than simply being responsible with your finances. [/hijack]

i was given an Odyssey II back in the early '80s. It was actually pretty impressive back then. Better than the 2600 for sure.

Atari 2600

I even remember some of the games came with a "team Atari" comic book too.

I ALWAYS wanted a ColecoVision and even, moreso, the Coleco Adam. One of these days I will pick one up on eBay.

We had a Sega Master System & a Nintendo Entertainment System. "Altered Beast" was my favorite SMS game at that time. "Dragon Warrior" was probably my favorite NES game (I got it free w/ a subscription to "Nintendo Power Magazine".

Edit: ****, after reading Avengar's post I totally forgot that we owned an Atari 2600. My favorite game was "Combat".

Old school Atari. Got it at a garage sale when I was a kid.

Yeah I forgot about gameboy. I take back my initial post, my first was a gameboy. Burnt out the screen as a kid leaving it on pause overnight so I wouldn't lose my place in super Mario world.
2010-03-05, 9:13 PM #35
Technically handheld and console would be different but since they were made by the same manufacturer you would be good anyway as far as the poll goes.

atari... something before 2600, then we had the 2600, then we eventually got NES... that ruled, I remember exclaiming how much mario looked like a real person.

Atari 2600 was the first modular one. We had an Atari Pong console as well as that funny Atari 7 game pong deal.

After that, Genesis, PSX, Dreamcast. Mind you all of this was many years too late and I grew up playing PC adventure games. :colbert:

Sega Genesis. I was real late to the party, too. It was just three or four years later that the Dreamcast came out.

I (meaning my dad) technically had an Atari 2600 first, but I don't recall playing that until much later for some reason, so I would really say the NES. The order I got my systems:

Atari 2600, NES, Game Boy, SNES, (Game Boy Color?), N64, Gamecube, GBA, DS, Wii, Genesis/Saturn/Dreamcast/Nomad.

One of these days, I'll get myself a 360 and a PS2.
