(TAKE A GOOD HARD LOOK AT MY) New Boat

Made a deal on a new boat yesterday. Will pick it up in a week or two. Here it is (w/out some of the options I ordered which they will be installing):

Awesome! I've always wanted a boat.
Fincham: Where are you going?
Me: I have no idea
Fincham: I meant where are you sitting. This wasn't an existential question.

That paint job is really tacky. Get rid of it and put a shark face instead.

Awesome! When do I get a ride?

Pretty slick, Brian.

EDIT: Is that a V8 boat?

EDITv2: Just looked it up. That thing has a 350 in it! BADASS!

Take it out and start various naval battles.
Code to the left of him, code to the right of him, code in front of him compil'd and thundered. Programm'd at with shot and $SHELL. Boldly he typed and well. Into the jaws of C. Into the mouth of PERL. Debug'd the 0x258.

Hey Brian, nice boat. Hope you don't mind me asking - what do you do? I mean, you have a bike, a boat, and a family and IIRC are pretty young. Maybe I should consider changing careers. :D

I don't have a bike anymore, I sold it last March I think (and saved the money until now to use as a down payment on the boat). I do have a house, and a family. We drive old cars (both our cars have >100k miles on them) and don't have (much) debt (other than the house).

Seriously, though, I was just going to bed and I was having trouble sleeping -- having second thoughts about the boat now :( Which is fine now since I haven't really purchased it yet (can still back out w/out any problems). Which sucks, I've been wanting a new boat for 4 years.

To answer your question, I'm a computer programmer. At least, that's what I consider myself. I've had job titles like "senior software developer" and "senior scientific applications engineer" but I think that's a bunch of mumbo jumbo BS. I'm 32 I think and I've been doing programming since I started Massassi. I had trouble finding programming work when I got out of the AF so went to community college and got an ATA in computer systems design in development (which is a long way of saying "computer programming"). I didn't learn anything but once it was on my resume I haven't had any trouble finding jobs. Not sure I'd recommend a career change, probably depends on what you do now.

Black Scorpion has something to do with the engine...

Of all the places to try and take over w/ a boat, pick the island chain with a huge naval base on it :P

That is really awesome. I wish I had the means to have my own boat. Until then my girlfriends parent's let us use their pontoon whenever we want to go out fishing. I love driving a boat, just sitting there on the open water, cruising in the middle of the lake with no worries. It's just a wonderful feeling.

The two best days of boat ownership are the day you bring it home and the day you sell it. I know this from experience. You'll probably never use it enough to be worth what you paid, and you'll never get out of it what you want when you sell it. Enjoy.

Haha well maybe you got the wrong kind of boat. I've had a ski boat for the past 6-7 years and have been very satisfied. I bought it for $11k, put a $3k wake tower on it (and nothing else), enjoyed it for >6 years, and will sell it for around $8k. So that's $1k/yr for the boat -- not bad in my book.

Now the new boat... different story. It will end up costing me a lot more but it's a much nicer boat.

You have to keep in mind, they're not investments, they're just for fun. I don't expect to make money off it, and as long as I can sell it for more than I owe on it (which shouldn't be a problem even if I get laid off tomorrow since I'm getting a pretty good deal + I'm putting a sizable down payment), I'll be happy.

At the end of the day, I don't think a boat purchase is ever a "good" idea. It's a luxury item, no doubt about it.

You probably spent more on gas with that first boat, it sounds like, haha.

You have the right attitude for sure. It's just sad to see so many people in my area buy a boat and regret it for various reasons. Of course it's usually the boat's fault as far as they're concerned. Usually they jump into a purchase on a boat they can't afford, have no use for, and have no idea how to maintain it. I fall into the "can't afford it" category lol. Have fun with it Brian!

I don't think SARN's boat would have to catch his... SARN's boat can shoot things that go really far... really fast.

America has the most technologically advanced Navy in the world. The things the weapons on those ships are capable of are incredible. There's a reason we don't use battleships anymore. They're moot.

Well, there went that plan. :argh:
I can't wait for the day schools get the money they need, and the military has to hold bake sales to afford bombs.

Yes, but all of the capabilities are also extremely exagerated when it comes to real world use. Generally speaking, that is, for military technology in general.

I remember reading somewhere that you could put three burke class destroyers against the entire United States Pacific Fleet from WW2. I don't know if that's accurate or not. I remember the article said the Pacific Fleet would be at the bottom of the ocean before they knew what was attacking them.

I wouldn't necessarily argue that. I've often wondered what kind of a difference a skilled operator with one modern firearm could have made in a Civil or Revolutionary War engagement.

I wouldn't be surprised.

+Range +Attack Power.

Doesn't take a military brain to figure out who would win.

OH HAI GUYS I LIKE WAKEBOARDING.
