Just came across this little story on Lifehacker, and it's a really cool site. Especially that laptop carrying bag hoodie! All types of cool things you can do with a basic hoodie (of which I have many in my closet)

Either Steven is the only heterosexual on the planet or he's wrong. Either way, as a long-time hoodie guy, I can say w/ confidence that I've never heard of one referred to as a hooded sweatshirt. I think that's because sweatshirts are generally associated w/ homosexuality.

I've only heard "hooded sweatshirt" in Adam Sandler's Red Hooded Sweatshirt.

I never had the dilemma of having to figure out what to call it. Luckily my grandmother never knitted me a Sweat(Shirt/er).
