Does this happen to anyone else?

Occasionally, after deep sleep I'll wake up but feel paralyzed for sometimes a minute or two. I wont be able to open my eyes, or move my body, but I can think. Has anyone else experienced this phenomenon?

I haven't experienced it, but it's not too uncommon and while (I hear) it can be a very scary experience, it's also harmless (though I'm unsure whether it may be indicative of some underlying sleep disturbances). It's called sleep paralysis.
Looks like we're not going down after all, so nevermind.

Yes, I've had that happen a few times. Quite scary, where it's like your brain has awakened, but your body hasn't.

BTW, this condition is sometimes associated with hallucinations due to what I imagine is from a part of the brain still being, well, asleep.

I've had it two times now. Strange that you can't open your eyes, I was always able to do so when I've experienced sleep paralysis. Most of the time you'll be hallucinating too, both visually and auditive. It's a scary experience most of the time. Experiencing sleep paralysis indicates a very bad sleep/wake cycle, or lack of sleep.

Its called sleep paralysis.

Really big nancies act like its the scariest thing since Hillary Clinton ran for president, but it really isn't a big deal. Just annoying.

I'm a light sleeper and I sleep during the day, so this happens to me about 25465462626 times a week.

There should have been an episode of the X-Files about this.

At one point after my full-back fusion, this is the only way I could sleep. Much of my insomnia associated to medical procedures has been accompanied by sleep paralysis, and sleeping with my eyes open. I haven't experienced anything besides difficulty sleeping for a few years though.

It's just the alien systems lagging a bit before they give you back control over your body.

Guess I'm a nancy.

This has happened to me a few times in my life, usually with the hallucinations. The most recent was a few months ago and I hallucinated that I was burning alive, probably one of the worst things I've ever experienced.

[edit]Always been able to open my eyes, though.

I've had it occasionally. What I have more often is a little different: sometimes, when napping on a couch or in a chair, especially if I'm laying on my back, I become unable to move. I can't breath. I always manage to roll over and get a huge gasp of air before it becomes serious, though.

I probably couldn't open my eyes because I was face down, and I didn't experience any hallucinations. I actually find it fascinating.

For me it was always total terror, like I was pinned to the bed and unable to move or scream.

yea, I read your body does this so you don't act out your dreams.

I always get it with terrorizing hallucinations. Not like "omfg huge monster" stuff, but like voices and people talking about stuff that really pisses me off and that I wouldn't want to deal with. So it's more like frustrating and annoying, but sometimes the people scare me.

Yes this has happened to me twice in the last year. It only happens when I go to sleep during the daytime.

The first time this happened to me I thought I was dead. Real scary.
