Which series is better: Pokeman or Zelda?

I have to know. (I spelled Pokemon correctly in the poll options so we don't have to argue about it here.)

Wheres the "it's silly to pick because it would be like comparing Gran Turismo to Grand Theft Auto" option?

Quit whining. Pick an option or go away!

Zelda is a high fantasy action/adventure game with puzzle and platformer elements.
Pokemon is a modern anime-styled collection game with RPG elements and a turn-based battle system.

The Legend of Zelda series brought a unique style of games that combines action, problem solving, and strategy. The player had to figure out complex areas using items found along the quest through trial and error or reasoning. When it moved to 3D, puzzles and dungeons became more challenging. It started a franchise that is very well known across the globe. Pokémon...is anime that involves furry "creatures".

Pokemans

Zelda is lame. The SNES version was okay, though.

I've never played a Zelda game.

Never had the hardware for it.

FYI: Pokemon originally had little to no anime elements in it. :P

Anyway, this poll fails. If I had to pick a favorite, I'd probably say Zelda, since they have a more engaging storyline and I like a good plot, but I've put significant time into Pokemon, so to say it's bad just because I rated it under Zelda would be stupid thing to extrude from the poll. The games are targeted at wholly different genres and audiences.

Just to say, if we're going to talk about the TV aspects of both series then Zelda doesn't have a particularly strong leg to stand on :P

Zelda's hardest games were on the NES, the more games Zelda got the easier it got. Especially the latest one, talk about simple.

I enjoy playing the Zelda games more. I never really cared for RPGs though Pokemon still manages to be a game I like.

Both series have kept essential core gameplay mechanics intact since the first iteration, and have experimented with games that deviate from that as well (Adventure of Link, Pokemon Snap, Pokemon Pinball, Pokemon Ranger). I think Zelda has been more overall though (experimentations with overworld mechanic in Wind Waker, Phantom Hourglass, Spirit Tracks, wolf mechanic in Twilight Princess) while Pokemon has been "playing it safe" more in the main game line AFAIK. Pokemon isn't terribly strong on story either, it's basically the same basic story with different subplots. While Zelda has a same basic structure to the plot it does better at disguising it I think. It would be nice for a Pokemon story that you couldn't really predict from the starting town.

Totally agree with you on the main game line of pokemon, it hasn't changed much. But since this is a completely unfair comparison I decided to go further and compare "all zelda games" with "all pokemon games".
Well, to be honest the main reason I voted pokemon was because I knew the majority would vote Zelda, story-line is definitely better, pokemons all about stat raising and paper scissors rock lizard spock
But eh, it's a meaningless poll anyway.

I'm not qualified to vote on this subject (remind you of anything?) because I've only played the original Zelda & don't know anything about Pokemon but I voted anyways, just because I can (remind you of anything again?).

Zelda.
? :)
2010-03-20, 8:45 AM #23
Well the poll was about which series is better, not specific games in each series.

I've actually enjoyed a pokemon game at some point in my life.
It took a while for you to find me; I was hiding in the lime tree.

I have no idea what you're actually trying to do there, Tony.
But then, I didn't click the link, I hovered and saw the infamous "ytmnd" and considered killing you over the internet, but I didn't end up doing that either.

He probably just couldn't wrap his head around the water temple. Heaven forbid he ever plays Majora's Mask! But even so, the 2d zeldas are just plain harder.

I was in grade 8 or so when Pokemon got really popular. It was like Pogs: kids were sitting around playing with Pokemon cards during recess, or with their gameboys, and I had no interest in joining in whatsoever. I was baffled that it didn't fade into obscurity like Pogs did!
I'm just a little boy.

I find it somewhat shifty that this poll appears right after the last Pokemon thread. I hope this isn't some attempt to "prove" a point, but I'll give Brian the benefit of the doubt that it was merely an innocent question (although after the last thread that might be a wrong choice)

For the record, I love both series, but I'm picking Zelda hands down, no questions about it.

I still can't complete that ****ing temple w/o resorting to a guide. I always forget where ONE key is. Always.

I found the NES temples ridiculously simple except for Level 9. A Link to the Past actually offered challenging ones.

It wasn't the temples in Majora's Mask that pissed me off, it was the three-day timer that made me mad and gave up.

I actually thought pokeman would win, based on the replies to that other thread. My faith in all you punks is restored!!!!

Also, I had problems with water temple. Also, I didn't have any problems with anything in Zelda III -- that's my favorite zelda of all time.

Brian, even in the last thread nobody was saying Zelda was crap and Pokemon was the most awesome game ever.
We (some of us) were just saying it's nothing as bad as you were saying it was. Pokemon is a decent game that semi-engages the brain and it's desire to make numbers bigger, just like all games.
If it wasn't for the cartoon, it wouldn't get this "sissy kiddy" rep it get's from some people, I was fortunate enough to have the played the game before I saw the cartoon.

I've never played Zelda and the only Pokemon game I ever played was Pokemon Crystal which I found repetitive and pretty damn boring. So I'm not gonna vote :D

No Deadman, you are obviously just a sissy boy. How dare you comment on Pokemon's credible qualities. Man you are just such a ***
